After hearing different opinions on the subject, i'm curious as to the best way of treating natural fibre rope.  Currently i'm looking at whipping the ends with non-wax dental floss and then boiling, oiling and burning off stray 'hairs'.

Also - what lengths do different folk find the most useful?

I don't use Jute, so I can only talk about Hemp rope.  But the technique I use is to boil for 2 hours, stretch my rope out to dry, and burn off the fuzzies, at which point I can be done, or go the extra step of rubbing in oil.  I usually use a very small amount of petroleum jelly.  I know people who use mink oil, and supposedly, there's some hideously expensive seed oil that's more authentic.

You can also substitute boiling for soaking, you soak the rope for 10 days, changing the water daily.  I did that once and decided that I'm just not that patient.

How did you treat the ends of the hemp?  (To prevent unravelling.)

get the bitch in hand with closeline (that is about 3 bucks a hank)

take a magic marker and measure the tie.........
that works for her, that works for me......
I wouldn't grab hemp rope for any off the counter whore, she has gotta stick, it is a long road there...........if you are in love, flax rope is the way to end the thing.

I have had people I know use tool dip..Works very well for the ends..

I just buy from twistedmonk.com, their ends are already prepped and wrapped. :)

I tie knots in the ends of my rope.  Usually a Mathew Walker knot, as it's unique.  If you want to tie Turk's Heads, I would reccomend stacking two or three together.  A single Turk's Head is very common.

Also, with regard to length, the lengths I use the most are 12 foot and 30 foot.  For full body harnesses, I'll use 50 foot quite often.  A good rule of thumb is, the thinner your rope, the longer you'll need so you can use more wraps.  I use 6 and 8 mm rope.  To me, anything else is impractical for general bondage.
