the insurance companies are not solvent.

the banking system is not solvent.

so you now OWE federal reserve notes.    These are made up by central bankers.  You have no so so what-so-ever in the matter.

You are required to submit federal reserve notes.

If you do not- then your house will be taken from you.

You don't know the difference between currency and money.

pahunkboy -> RE: Mandated insurance, vehicle, home, etc (3/27/2010 9:53:44 PM)

the system is broke.

it needs endless bail outs from the humans.

so that CEOS can go junketing.

laws apply to YOU- not the the ruling class.

You also don't know the difference between an obsession and a thread topic.

Bush was not this bad.  At this point- I wish Bush would come back.

Musicmystery -> RE: Mandated insurance, vehicle, home, etc (3/27/2010 10:05:31 PM)

Well, for starters, without Bush, we'd be running a surplus, the budget would be a third of the size, we wouldn't be caught in the structural drain of two wars, we wouldn't be paying for Homeland Theater, we'd still have rights we gave up to the Patriot Act, and we wouldn't have done tax cuts Alan Greenspan warned were irresponsible before Bush talked to him and then suddenly they were probably OK.

Oh. And a lot of dead people would still be with their loved ones.

I've lived in places that mandated renter's insurance.

When do we get to institute mandatory Life Insurance and Renter's Insurance?

Vendaval -> RE: Mandated insurance, vehicle, home, etc (3/27/2010 10:32:45 PM)

And that really is the heart of the matter, especially with the uninsured resorting to Emergency Rooms because they cannot pay, for matters that could better be handled in a doctor's office or clinic.

The trouble is that everyone has health, and will conceivably need health insurance. People will argue it should be choice, but just as with uninsured drivers, that choice impacts others, from unpaid emergency care to disease control.

If I were given the choice, I would buy auto insurance.

Same with homeowners insurance.

Same with health insurance.

Some things just make sense.

Some of us have little need for health insurance. Personally, I take what I would have paid into a policy and save/invest it.

The year before last, I had a pretty major head/inner ear problem, that required visits to a neurologist, hemotologist, inner-ear/balance specialist, with CT scans and MRI's done. I paid cash for the procedures out of what I saved (and many doctors are QUITE happy to give really sizable discounts on procedures when they get paid in cash, since they don't have to waste time/effort/money to try and get the money from the insurance companies).

Thus, wanting to get health insurance makes little sense to me.

Maybe. Clinton didn't run a surplus though it was getting close to being able to pull one off. (The deficit was about $17 billion his last year in office, which is a far cry better than any since.)

Which is all well and good.

But tell me, do you have the financial ability to cover yourself if you have a debilitating accident or illness that requires major treatment or a lifetime of care?

Clinton's last budgets posted a surplus.

I don't know why this myth about there being no surplus continues but it is easy to verify on government sites.  I've posted it so many times I'm not going to look it up again, but here is a recap:
