Here is a challenge to the lets grow central government for the commie leftees, and lets grow privatized government for the rightee nazis; There is a saying that if you think what you pay now is expensive wait until its free! Why does anyone even consider things like social security like that alone doesnt have a big enough strangle hold on you for taxation and penalizing you when you have hurt no one or done no damage to anyone but only because you did not follow some golden rule that a small group of people so called lawmakers decided you need to follow for whatever agenda they feel is the right agenda for the moment to follow? Why not fix the system we have now? All law comes from some moral somewhere back in history, (and I do NOT mean statutory administrative code legal with the force of law), what would be wrong with people going back to the ability of affording their own healthcare? Hospitals pay 5 grand for a damn heart monitor and its paid for "every" time a new patient comes in. Big pharma has the doctors in their back pocket and since the herbs are not a corporation approved, (because people can grow them in their gardens), doctors avoid prescribing the very best cures available to us today. Why not get government out of the health which is now an "industry" as a result of government intervention. The courts are an industry as a result of government intervention. Everything the government touches becomes fully "COMMERCIALIZED". Marriage, kids, health, judicial, even your right to travel freely. So tell me people why give up all your rights and contract into this constitution burning commercialization of the essence of life et al itself?

Unless im mistaken, the health care crisis began as a deregulation of health care, enabling the creation of HMO's and such, making the health industry a profit driven industry. And since your looking for some debate here, explain to me how you believe hospital charges work.

Yeah, I think one of the big problems with the US health care system is that it's main goal is to make money rather than provide care. We complain and wonder why everything costs so much - but it's no suprise, when profit's the basis of the whole system. In other developed countries that use private health care, it's done on a non-profit basis and they save tons of money and cover everybody.

Non-profits still make a profit, but its a profit thats driven back into the company, not into stockholders pockets. And, honestly, has anyone driven by a hospital lately and not wondered at the cost of the statues and artwork they now contain, most not even visable to a patient room?

My x had procedures performed in Texas that cost about $250,000 the first time. Of course, the insurance company tried to get out of coverage (It succeeded the second time.). I would think the reverse would have been the rule; that the insurer paid more, not us peons.

don't know why the righties aren't screaming about forcing the HMO's back into MUTUAL status ( for the people ) and off the stock market. Mebbe they're too heavily invested.

When I had an accident my bills were $16k and the insurance tried to refuse the claim. When they finally relented the amount they paid was less than half that.
