ORIGINAL: Lucienne quote:
Once on the ground, FEC filings suggest, Steele travels in style. A February RNC trip to California, for example, included a $9,099 stop at the Beverly Hills Hotel, $6,596 dropped at the nearby Four Seasons, and $1,620.71 spent [update: the amount is actually $1,946.25] at Voyeur West Hollywood, a bondage-themed nightclub featuring topless women dancers imitating lesbian sex. Read more here. From the article, it sounds like there is no limit to Michael Steele's incompetence as RNC chair in terms of responsible stewardship of funds. But I'm also, of course, struck by the fact that the RNC chair would go to such a club knowing that it will show up on an FEC filing someday. I'm not an RNC donor. (Nor have I ever donated to the DNC). If I were a donor, I'd want to know, from a purely financial perspective, if such expenditures were actually translating into high dollar donations. If I were an RNC donor, I'm not sure how I'd feel about this being done at a "bondage-themed nightclub." I'm guessing that most RNC donors are the fancier types for whom the idea of conducting business around strippers seems natural. If Focus on Family was raising money like this, some people might get upset. But that, contrary to the easy assumption about the party of "values," the nudie lady nightclub probably isn't a big deal to the RNC's consituents. What's anyone else's take on this? Sure you would, but since you're not a donor, you're just trying to stir up shit because your guy is crashing & burning big time.
