First, I'd like thank you all for the wonderful responses. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy a passionate debate on a variety of issues, but it's nice to have a feel good thread on occasion as well and that's what this one has done for me. I think it's only fair that I answer my own question. :) I find that while I gain some growth from experience, what I gain from insight into self is leaps and bounds above it. Learning the history of piercing, how it relates to the Indian half of my ancestry, the spiritual connection which opened up to me ... well, suffice to say that the actual experience of being pierced was incomparable to what came afterwards. The experience itself was vital to my growth because without it I wouldn't have undertaken the journey I did to learn more, but measure for measure, it was only the first step. I've found that many experiences for me are like that.. they are first steps to something more and it's generally the 'more' which improves my knowledge base of self, even when the 'more' somehow limits me. Well, there's my 2 cents. :) Thank you all again, Celeste
