MHOO314 -> People Don't Change (4/2/2006 3:59:57 PM)

(this may get moved, that's ok, I'm not sure if I am posting in the right place for this but...)

NOTE: this is not a place for flaming, it is I hope a lesson to all who come after...

We see post after post about fakers, liars, cheaters, mean people doing mean things to U/us on the L/life and we get hurt, we get angry. My comment is this:

The world is full of mean people doing mean things, some overt, some covert--the internet has provided the cloak of darkness felt by criminals long before modern man--to think because we "have something to hide" means people should be more honest--well we should all have hopes, but humans are humans and since the first human committed an act against another--there will always be predators--our life is no different.

What the internet and these sites DO provide is thay very cloak of secrecy, the one way mirror if you will that allows people to watch--often unseen, while they evaluate, interview, test, moinitor, watch---the problem I see, is too often people are willing to give up so much information--too quickly--they ignore all the rules of safety--everything goes out the window--but yes, on the other side--a predator can come in the most appealing form--

My lesson is this: if you think because "we" are different that people are different they aren't-- the ratio is about the same as that life out there-BUT if you are looking for a community of education, possibilites, and an array of options--then you have come to the right place--BUT remember, you expect us to be tolerant of you, you need to be tolerant of U/us.

Just a couple of thoughts in quote form, because I think they pretty much sum things up:

"...illusions multiply and among them there is, I suppose, none more ubuquitous than the idea that you can change human nature. This ancient platitude might long ago have been relegated to a home for superannuated ideas were it not so constantly useful."

I swear sometimes reading a post of yours Ma'am.. is like sitting in the back pew of Sunday Church... and knowing.. that today  what the preacher is up there preaching about... is aimed right at you..... [;)]

???????????
I am afraid i don't really get what you are driving at here, other than preaching tolerance, which you did in another thread...so just colour me confused

smiles, this one tries to address the fact that our world is full of the same cheaters we find "out there", the other one addresses that our innate beliefs still drive our responses to alternatives in our lifestyle by those that disagree---a tad different.

people are always, ultimately, people..........no matter how different we tell ourselves we are

A wise statement, My hope here is that those that come in to rant at the site about the type of people will read this and stop to realize it doesn't change just because they are in the life.

Good point.  And when people start spouting off about the lifestyle being full of honesty and openess and kink toleration, they can be reminded that people here are no different than people anywhere else.

If this lifestyle was the only filter required to keep the "fakers, liars, cheaters, mean people" out, we would be rich.
