Anyone know why it is always when you really need sleep that sleep just won't come?
I have an interview tomorrow to go and do some volenteer work abroad for a cause I believe in a great deal and only very few people will be picked, I was lucky enough to make it through to the interview as they only interview so many of those that applied. I had planned to relax this evening, get an early night and be fresh and on the ball tomorrow morning. Evening all starts off to plan, go out to get food, long relaxing bath, clothes laid out and organised, nothing forgotten, warm drink and lay down to sleep and then.nothing, no peace and no quiet, just lots of thoughts buzzing around my head, worry about the interview, then knowing i have to get to sleep, then worry about not getting to sleep causing me to stay awake longer, so I got up and came here, thought I would try and still my mind by brousing the forums and resist the urge to chew my fingernails down to tiny ragged stumps.

Anyone have any chloroform?

I suffer from insominia at times, I also notice the more stressed I am the least likely I am to get sleep, even with my dear old ambien............I really can't offer any solutions but i did want to wish you good luck on your interview.

Thanks very much for the well wishes, I am starting to seriously consider the chloroform answer!

Is a big thing for me and I'm nervous as hell of not making it so my brain won't stop ticking, sorry thing is it is a self fufilling prophecy.

I know the feeling. I'll look at my clock and think, "Hmmmmm, if I go to sleep in five minutes, I'll still get x amount of hours of rest." On those rare occasions I can't sleep, I will usually go read or watch tv; although, why is it when you are watching tv to make you tired, the best shows are always on?

I remember reading somewhere once that the best thing to do when you can't sleep is just to lie down quietly; your body still gets some rest from that.

Hope your interview goes well!

Lol yep and thanks, right now I'm down to 5 hours and 15 mins if i fall asleep in the next five seconds ..... maybe I should go and read cookbooks - something even more impossible than my interview - learning to cook

Don't fall into my trap when that happens of turning my clock away from the bed so that I can't see the time. After a while, I call the time service recording to see if the amount I thought has passed actually did..lol.

Should be about 4 hours and 35 mins now.

Learning to cook isn't that hard when the person who is teaching you is a damn good cook. At first it is just following directions, you can do that, right? Once you have got your confidence up and learned the 'rules' of cooking then you know when you can break them and create something wonderful.

Hope the interview went well.

When I realy need to sleep and pain isn't causing me sleep loss, I grab an old copy of the Western Australian Explosives Legislation or any legal mumbojumbo like a copy of Parlementary Debates etc .. Guarenteed to get the brain to head for the cover of deep sleep.......

Legal Mumbo Jumbo should do it, maybe I should have sat and learned some of the financial rules over again I need to work!

Thanks everyone for the words of wisdom, I finally slept and i think the interview went ok, and maybe, just maybe I could be gonig to do some good for people.

Just have your coffee ready to make in the morning and you will be fine. If you would like an activity to make you sleepy, click on games and give Tetris or Space Invaders a try for a good 30 minuets to an hour. You'll find yourself ready to pass out soon enough.

I blame you situation on Day Light Savivng Time. It does nothing but screw with us and our patterns. It takes time for our bodies to adjust to the changes of light, eating, and sleeping. Pets over all are the most confused. It takes a good month for our dog to figure out when to eat, sleep, and potty.

So.... Find her someone to make coffee for in the morning.... check
Activity to make her sleepy... I think that can be arranged
Games... yup but I doubt tetris or space invaders would be involved

You think you can cook... I KNOW I can cook.... but don't worry I'll let you cook sometimes when you're down, but in both cases the washing up is your department

Hon, I'm in here tonight for the same reason.  I have terrible bouts of insomnia and nothing ever seems to help.  After the first night or two, it exactly like you said:  self fulfilling propehcy.

Insomnia always hits me mostly when I try to get to sleep. Any other time I don't seem to have trouble with it. I hope this helps.

PS. Hope everything turns out the way you would like it to
