I see the Vatican and it's popes as seeing they have lost their grip on the majority, hopefully biding their time until such a time arises as people come back to the church as they always do,and probably did in the first place that gave rise to the catholic church. What they did not reckon on was their predisposition for the younger members of the church being their downfall. In the past what they did with the younger members went unnoticed, the younger members held no power, but now they do, we are all, ears to what the younger people say and people who were young once. In all parts of society where those that set themselves out to help and guide the young are scutinised to their suitability in the hope to weed out the unworthy, the priests fall into this category as it is their position also help and guide the young, they should not be immune to what is found because of their belief in an elevated position. It should be taken if they, the priests and ministers commit the acts they do, then they are no more than the paedophiles we find and imprison in society, they in this civilised society, should not be immune, as if they at all appear to be so, then we know the church still influences the law makers and prosececutors that govern us all. If justice is to be done, all those with the weakness they have should suffer the same as others in society and all those that hide these criminals should be seen as common law accomplices. What one was when they committed their crime, their present position should not hold them safe from the law of any land.
