I have been told from a few sources that there are a number of fake profiles on this site and i was wondering if there were any general rules to help spot them.

Check everything matches (ie african-american according to profile, but picture is blonde, or location:New-york, Belgium)....check the picture in general, if it's a model/professionally shot 95% of the time it's fake....but mind the 5% who just genuinely are highly attractive good photographers....and any location in africa=no go.
99.99% of those saying 'no webcam/phone/pics, just online' are men. Generally never ever ever send anyone money, not even if you've been talking to them for months and months and they've subtly mentioned trouble paying the rent over a long period....

So just the general scammer flags that are everywhere else on line.

Basically normal common sense is all that's required. Don't have any expectations and you won't have any disappointments. And the sooner you meet for coffee, the sooner you make sure that age and gender and such characteristics are as described.

TBH the only real experience i have had so far on CM of it was about 20 mins ago when a slave messaged me asking me to contact them directly via email.

Red flags all round.
