I don't watch much tv, but I'm happy it's baseball season again :)
As for books, my favorites are East of Eden by John Steinbeck (I can read it over and over) and The End of Alice by A.M. Homes (delightfully twisted). I don't like mystery, romance or westerns, but I'll read just about anything else...and I read waaay too much to list my other favorites.

Show : Smart cooking shows like Masterchef (on the I Player ... TV ain't worth having) are the only ones I ever look for to watch ... not bothered with anything else that "runs", but I can cook so I find them good for ideas.

Book : Rogers Profanisaurus Rex / Rogers Magna Farta etc (by Viz). They greatly enhance ones understanding of life.

TV- Sons of Anarchy for the bikes and the BDSM undercurrents, Warehouse 13 for the steampunk fun of it. Nurse jackie for thesheer wickedness of the woman.
Eastwick for the most stunning cast of any show. Sanctuary for the most astonishing story lines and the sexiest girls. Being Human for the sexiest vampire ever, he is way hotter than anyone else in fangs I kid you not.
Brimstone for the best devil ever. Shameless for the absolute hell of it and the endless depravity of the characters, no matter how fed  up you are, it will make you laugh out loud every time.

BOOKS  GP Taylor, shadowmancer, tersias and wormwood three wild novels of angels, demons, spooks and the interplay of historical characters and vastly superior scenes and plots, each book is a masterpiece beyond compare.
Terry Pratchett, the colour of magic, if you have seen Lord of the Rings, and liked it, this book will make you laugh so hard you will hurt yourself. Skullduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy, a lighthearted fantasy series that is great fun, check out the website where you get to send someone a message printed on a gravestone, woohoo!

FILMS From paris with love, John travolta makes james bond look like a cardboard cut out, witty dialogue, fast story, endless violence, good performances, a movie well worth the money. Blood and chocolate, sexy werewolves, mean characters and absinthe, what more do you want? Stunning images.

That's when I'm not chasing up and down the country after the circus of horrors, the sexiest live show on earth, check them out on youtube for the story about the dwarf who superglued his knob to a hoover and had to go the hospital, watch it and try not to laugh, you'll lose.

I heard the manuscript for the last book will be going to the publisher later this year.  Perhaps the last book of the series will finally be available next year.

I have to agree with Sons of Anarchy.  There's so much about that show to love--the aesthetics, the badassed femmes fatales, the raw brutality, the intelligently written characters, and the pitch black humor.  I also dig the tension between the kind of mongrel, cobbled together idealism of Jax and the opportunism and situational ethics of Clay.

I was impressed the writers managed to resist the temptation to make Jax into either Christ or Faust (Wilde observed that most coming of age protagonists descend into crude caricatures of one or the other).  He's more like a Greek hero.  It could be because I always think of the Homeric refrain  "the long haired Achaeans" whenever the Sons are riding out to drink, screw, or blow something up; but I've always felt like the whole show sometimes has the feel of a modern day Greek epic.  Parents betraying children who betray them right back.  The Ferocious Mother.  Larger than life adventures resolved with cunning and cruelty.

It's Homeric, Shakespearean (court intrigue, treacherous usurper's in the heir apparent's mother's bed, etc), ultraviolent, grotesque, and beautiful.

Plus, Peg Bundy is really aging well.

That would be great to see what happens. Are you happy Ayla ended up w/Jondular or did you want to see her w/the flint knapper (forgot his name but the young black man who she was going to marry)

i'm enjoying "Fringe" for tv, though shows like Anthony Bourdain, Samantha Brown (i'd love love love to have her job!  Hers, or Mr. Bourdain's, actually, i think), and First 48 have been among my favorites in the past.  And i still enjoy cartoons, too. [:)]

Books... i love books, though i'm getting into the fantasy genre lately.  i just finished a book by Sarah Douglass, the first of her Troy Game series called Hades' Daughter.

barelynangel -> RE: What is your favorite show and or book? (4/8/2010 6:13:57 PM)

Books -- JD Robb in death series, it never gets old; my favorite book in the whole world however, is a cheesy romance called Whitney My Love; i also like a lot the Christine Feehan books all series, Sidney Shelton i have always enjoyed, There is also another favorite of mine that i read a long time ago and simply it has always stuck with me by Ken Follet called The Third Twin - about genetic engineering and the nature vs nurture debate. I also like fitness books, mystery books, cheesy romance ones now and again.

TV, let's see -- House, TBL, Criminal Minds, Bones, Law & Orders, The amazing race, Fringe,

oh i should admit i LOVE cooking shows, no not reality shows but actual cooking shows lol. Good thing i don't have extensive cable or all i would watch would be the food network/cooking show network they have. The ironic thing is -- i can't cook AT ALL lol.
