Hi all,
Two questions.... I'm in love with photography, tasteful, artistic photography and I'm interested in doing a non explicit (more suggestive) series in both black and white and in colour. I'm specifically interested in bruising as it shows up wonderully in photo's and can be very suggestive of more than is portrayed in the actual shot. So here are my questions.
1. Does anyone know any photographers I could use for reference/ideas with similar interest/themes
2. If I want to cause some colourful (but controlled) and extensive (but not particually deep bruising) what would you suggest I use? A flooger?

I bruise most dramatically with the paddle Master uses, its quite heavy....although caning does have a unique look all of its own, the two red welts on either side of impact zone can be really spectacular looking.

To make bruises more intense, preceed the session with a dose of adult asprin given about two hours before.

To make them show up better on black and white film, a 25R filter on the lense.

There is this guy John Warren who was news photographer in the US and Southeast Asia, but if you mean fetish photography, I know Barbara Nitke and Ephraim Gonzalez.  In fact, I'll be meeting Barbara when I attend LLC this weekend.

I'm sorry John, I didn't mean to insinuate that you aren't a photographer.

I googled the other names, no luck. Can you tell me any other way I can get to see their work?

I'm amazed you couldn't find Barbara as she's been all over the news recently after the US Supreme Court refused to hear her challange to the internet decency act.  She even has her own website. She's currently working on her second book.  Ephram is and old school kind of guy, uses silver film and doesn't have a website.

If you just want to look at fetish photography, you don't need to find someone who knows them.  There's plenty of stuff on the web  or you can buy one of the many books that are out there.  A good source for them is http://www.lastgasp.com/

I'm not really looking for fetish stuff. The stuff I have seen isn't really my kind of thing. I'm more into trying to show the aesthetic value of it not the arrousing nature, if that makes sense. But thanks for the help none the less.

As a medical professional, I cannot condone the use of aspirin to increase bruising. Exercise extreme caution if you are a smoker or anemic. It can also increase clotting time of open wounds, so be careful with blade play.

Now, as a sadist, I can say that a single aspirin can help to make some pretty bruises that will linger for several more days than usual. Canes, crops, rough surfaced paddles, and knotted cats seem to leave the more interesting bruises.

For the life of me I can't remember the names I heard mentioned and I never noted them because it didn't affect me at the time.. But I do know that there are good photographers in Melbourne, Sydney and I understand Brisbane all who have exhibited excelent B&W worl of which I think will be closer to wnat you are seeking. Their work is more artistic based than blatent.  I will ask about here lass and if I can come up with any ideas I'll either post or message you... Luck lass or in the tongue of my Blood Brother "Wayuha eyahyah nasah wateh." { May the hunt be good}.

I'm not really looking for fetish stuff exactly, more fetish orientated. The stuff I have seen isn't really my kind of thing. I'm more into trying to show the aesthetic value of it not the arrousing nature, if that makes sense. I want something that will appeal to both vanilla and fetish audiences. I want to show the aesthetics of bruising in the sense of sadomasochism/algolangia but I don't want them to be explicit more subtle (eg. a person sleeping peacefully along side their lover but extensive brusing is apparent) Yes I know it's a rough and cliche idea at this point but that's why I'm hoping to find inspiration through others works and hopefully any advice I can gather.

That's a great idea you've got there...  Noel Graydon has done a whole lot of bdsm and fetish photography.  A good deal of his work is very graphic, but strangely is not overwhelmingly sexualised - he's got a pretty detached eye...     He's also quite well known, so a google search should show up a few things...  A doco was made about his work, Liberty In Restraint...  www.libertyinrestraint.com has some info and links if you're interested.

If you can find his work look up Charles Gatewoods underground work. I don't think tho that you will find it public on the web anymore but worth looking in to.
