My significant other and I have never been on vacations so we have no idea where to start looking to find where we would want to go.  We have a first year anniversary coming up and we wanted to go somewhere for a couple days.  Just away from work, school, home, Vegas.  Does anybody have any suggestions?

I know most of you reading this are most likely thinking "you are in Vegas, why not just tour Vegas?"  Well, Vegas gets old, especially fast if you live and work here, see it everyday.

Thanks!

It depends on what the two of you enjoy. For me, vacations are very personal. What one person enjoys, I might hate, and visa versa.

I hate hate HATE touristy places with a lot of people. Especially families with a lot of children. I dislike Vegas and wouldn't go unless someone paid me.......... a LOT. So can understand why that would not be appealing.

Nice long road trips. They are very romantic. Unless you count the part where we don't have sex.

So what is considered to be the "general vicinity"?  Somewhere close enough to drive by car that doesn't eat up the whole weekend in driving, it seems to me.  That lets San Antonio out, its 2600 miles round trip.

Have both of you ever been to the Grand Canyon?  If not you should go there.  It's close enough to qualify, there is a fantastic hotel there, you can even get there by train from Williams AZ, a 130 mile trip each way in restored antique train cars.  Just over 200 miles to Williams from Vegas, about 400 to Grand Canyon Village if you drive all the way.

Actually I would love a long unhurried road trip with no specific schedule. Stopping where ever I wanted, whenever. Make a totally restored, old Airstream, part of the package and I would be in heaven.

That sounds nice. We can pick up chicks on the road.

We can take turns being each others "wing man".....

Thank Y/you all so much for the suggestions and ideas!  We both still need to sit down and talk this out first before planning anything, haha.

We want to keep it simple, a drive here or there, but more than likely, if we wanted to get a ways AWAY, and have something fun for both of us to enjoy, we'd have to fly, which is fine by us.  We want to stay within the US.  No time to go out of the country or cruise, although some day soon we would love to do that!

Anyway, thanks again for all of Y/your time!

If you want to drive, and have only a weekend, how about LA? It's not a bad drive, and there's tons of touristy things to do here. Universal Studios is great, and Disneyland is close by, too. There's also San Diego, which has the Zoo, SeaWorld, and lots of other things going on.

Take a drive up to San Francisco...lots of alternate lifestyles up there as well as Fishermen’s Wharf.

Or

Take a ride on the Durango Silverton railroad then a cabin in the mountains.

I love love love San Francisco.... as long as I don't have to drive in the city. All the streets are one way, going the wrong way!
Seriously though, Chinatown, Fisherman's Wharf, and a club or two would make an awesome weekend getaway.

The museums at Balboa Park are nice but nothing like the museums in San Francisco. You would spend a week there! There are so many great exhibits there.

I haven't been to Old Town in San Diego in ages. I have no idea how it is since they ruined it. Wyld is right there is a lot to do in San Diego but my choice would be San Francisco instead. Art museums, good food, walking trails, great scenery, many great places to drive to....I adore San Francisco...

I disagree. If you are in LV, you are about 3 hours or so by plane from one of the coolest cities on the planet - Vancouver, BC. The Olympic madness is over. It's all calm, now. There is so much to do, and the people are great. I've been twice. It's on my short list of places I'd like to live, and I've been to 16 countries so far.

So we've decided to go to Boston, MA.  The main reason is for the Red Sox vs. LA Angels game at the Fenway Park.  We will be going for three days and two nights so I know we'll be able to do some sight seeing too.  :)

My question now is: are there any suggestions about must-eats in Boston?  Any suggestions, no matter the type of place, kind of food, any time of day.

Thanks again!

Can't recommend a specific eatery (anyplace selling seafood is a good bet, though), but I suggest that you take out extra insurance on the rental car! I'm from SoCali and am skeered of the drivers in Boston!

Lol!  Wow, I'm from SoCal too and if you say it's scary to drive there then we may not rent a car at all.

Seafood: check!
