Asked what residents should do for protection, Common Pleas Judge Alfred Mackey replied, " Arm themselves," and added, "We're going to have to look after each other."/snip

Gosh-  I think PA might have jump on this one.

See while some of you are worried about stocking up on gold and silver, I have been stocking up on steel and lead. I think my stockpile will be worth more if the shit hits the fan, and definitely more useful.

We have had some pretty big cut backs here in this county, since I live in the sticks we rely on the county and state boys (who have taken some cuts as well), they are talking about cutting even further later this year. We were eligible for "stimulus" money to hire some more cops, but because the way the structured it, the funding would run out and we would have had to keep them on the payroll for an extra couple years or pay the money back. Neither was an option.

The next 10-20 years will be an exciting to be alive.   I belong to my county historical society. I LOVE history.   I hope I can share it with my family.

in the case of a mad max-esque wasteland, there would be nothing more valuable that ammunition.

though really, really doubt the likely hood of that happening. we'll just be a shit poor country with a bunch of spoiled college graduates (like myself) feeling too good to work in a factory and missing the days when everyone pretended a service economy and credit extension was the ultimate form of prosperity.

and in that situation, commodities will be worth quite a bit.

Ammo, is a fair store of wealth, as in you can sell it for nearly the same price as bought. In theory ammo prices should scale with inflation, or exceed it, if things get shakey, especially if you bought during calm times. It's probably a more practical way to store wealth for many people, and has dual use potential, as I'm sure you will be able to trade for gold with bullets, or take gold with bullets, or trade or fire bullets for food.

And if nothing at all happens and we enter a new bubble of prosperity, whatever, bullets are bullets, they don't go bad in a week, and can last very long if stored properly.

I'd say it's a good store of some of your wealth.

So am I except for a couple of months in Albuqu..... New Mexico and a few weeks in Florida.

So now the law is abdicating it's rsponsibility ? Seem logical to me, they never took responsibility seriously anyway. Nothing to lose.

I have hung with the militia types and the common law court types here. I thought it a waste in a way. I have been armed for most of my life, although I usually don't carry in public. And their statutes and codes ? They can churn out all the paper they want, and I will wipe my ass with it.

They busted Cintrone's olady for a gun after their house got robbed. (he is a Cleveland councilman) The house was robbed and thinking she had enough connections admitted to the attending officer that there was a gun in the house and she would check to see if it had been stolen or not. Unfortumatley for her it had not and they carted her off to jail.

Shit, I wouldn't even call the cops if there was less than five grand worth of shit missing. In fact it happened a few years ago, we got ripped off for a gun, loaded. Why bother calling the cops ? In a right society we should, and whenever they catch the guy they can tack on B&E to his charges and put him where he belongs, but NOOOOOOO, can't do that. Instead the right course of action is simply to make a phone call and buy another gun.

If they made a criminal out of me I am going to fucking act like it. I care not about their law, omly mine. I am as good as I can be, fair and just, don't fly off the handle and get along with people. And if Ashtabula is anything like I remember it, there are alot of people there with a similar attitude.

So I don't really see a problem here. The cops are not obligated to protect you, that was ruled by the US supreme court about a decade ago. They wanted it so you can't protect yourself as well. Yeah, and we all registered our new microwave ovens too, yeah right.

You never trade iron for gold. They had a buyback in NYC I hear and one of the things you could get for turning in your gun was a free psychological examination. I find actual humor in the fact that it is so very appropriate.

I heard this on the news also, very interesting.

I am glad I live in Virginia.
This summer I plan to start going to a shooting range.
I have always felt people have a right to protect themselves,

especially in their own homes.

I was 12 years old during the Detroit riots. My Russian grandma lived in Detroit city and the heart of that riot was 2 blocks away. I was 'called to duty' and stationed at the window with a shotgun along with some of my uncles. I could see buildings burning and see them turning over cars at the end of the block. I could hear gun shots, people screaming and shouting. Of all the racial crimes and theft that happened in that riot, no one touched her house or any of the Cadillac cars parked up and down the street that belonged to our family. I learned something from that. Later, in my 20s, I started collecting guns and had 51 rifles, 32 handguns and over 10,000 rounds of ammo. Arming yourself is good thing.

I still think it is "sad" that the police department, actually told the public that
they need to "arm themselves".
I never thought I would see this day.

Dang Thadius, I missed this post earlier.
Do you have any extra room in the bunker if I need a "safe" place to go?
You and RS sound ready for anything.
