Taoism, for me, will forever be associated with my (fuckhead) former brother-in-law, who called himself a Taoist and destroyed my sister's self-esteem by screwing around on her.

Would it have been better if he'd called himself a Christian?

What I have recieved from Taoism is a better understanding of balance.  Balance is a natural state of being. It also helps me to remember that I could not appreciate the light if there was no dark.  How could I understand or appreciate happiness if I had never known suffering?  Who and what I encounter on my path I could leave to fate or I could influence who and what I encounter through right thinking.  In other words:

Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

It is by will alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the juice of Sapho that thoughts acquire speed, the lips acquire stains. The stains become a warning. It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.

Nice, life can definitely use more Dune quotes.

P.S. The Bene Gesserit litany against fear really helped when I was hanging 200ft off the ground being swarmed by bees.
