Aneirin -> Just what is it with cats ? (4/16/2010 5:49:15 AM)

I am wondering about the cat that lives with me, for everytime I come in and find my cat has taken up a sleeping position on my laptop, it has somehow in it's paddling around managed to turn on the accessibility options via hot keys on my keyboard, now I never found out where they were, as I didn't need them, but the cat has found them. One time I remained logged into ebay and found the cat had the accessibility options on, I had a panic wondering just what she might have bought for me. I always make sure I log out of buy sites now.

But, just what is it with these creatures, everything I use regularly, the cat seems to claim as somewhere to sleep and hair up, what's it upto, why do cats do this ?

Because they can[8D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D].

cats are odd creatures, i have one that will sleep anywhere, the other needs a hiding place to curl up and crash in. i would say it probably likes the heat from your laptop plus it's a spot where it can get attention.

Well it could be an act of defiance.  You belong to the cat, not the computer.  So in the cats world- he is assessing the situation.

You're trying to figure out cats ?

You do have a straight jacket handy ?

Termyn8or -> RE: Just what is it with cats ? (4/16/2010 11:54:59 AM)

LOL Fae.

One theory on this is that no matter how domesticated they may be, cats and dogs are still animals. They have a sense of smell many times more sensitive than ours and use it to identify territory among who knows what else. You could shower every hour with bleach and your blindfolded pet may stilll be able to pick you out of a crowd based on scent alone. So it is quite possible that your cat percieves the laptop as your territory which he/she is willing to share with you - as long as you're good that is.

When I used to work on regular TVs rather than the huge symbols of opulence I now service, I can't tell you how many times I opened one up to find enough cat hair to make a fur coat. Talking to the customer frequently I found that the cat would sleep on top of the TV. Now that might be something other than scent, it may be that they noticed that this is an object that you pay quite a bit of attention to, and the result is pretty much expectable.

And, I am pretty sure you can get a straitjacket for about $150. I'm not sure how much one would be designed for a cat though......

Cats don't need straight jackets. They have themselves figured out just fine, and humans too.[:D]

I've always wondered why, whatever I am trying to read, the cat feels he needs to lay on.

pahunkboy -> RE: Just what is it with cats ? (4/16/2010 11:58:37 AM)

cats will chase odd pockets of energy in a house.  No reason- I mean- I cat could sleep sound thru a bomb and never flinch.

Aneirin -> RE: Just what is it with cats ? (4/16/2010 1:23:45 PM)

Yeah, I have noticed that with my cat, sometimes it will stare intently at nothing, when she does this, her eyes are wide open and her hair on end, as though she has seen something scary or unfathomable. I wonder if there is another creature in here, so go and look, but there is nothing, when I move to look, the cat legs it and hides somewhere.

Another time and place my ex's cat did this one evening, he looked terrified, but ready to fight, he was looking at something by the side of me, the cat crept past, looking at the edge of the chair with wide eyes and hair on end. The cat was definately looking at something, but there was nothing there, except a patch of cold in a centrally heated room.

Cats are a very perceptive and receptive species, and I generally think that the old legends about them being able to see between the worlds may be true - hence the staring and/or sometimes appearing to interact with "nothing" and cold spots and such..

The cats do sleep on tvs, and computers etc because its warm... thats the reason... at least its what mines do...

I'm thinking that if you have a dog too.....the cat is trying to sell the dog on eBay...

Mine from time to time stop and stare at something. I figure it is the Ghost of my parents. They sense something is there.

We have babysat somebodys cat and it disappeared. After two days it was found in the lower part of the refrigerator sitting on the motor area purring away in the nice warm spot. I am talking back in the 1970's.

They love anything warm even under the hood of a car.

Aneirin -> RE: Just what is it with cats ? (4/16/2010 6:09:18 PM)

I agree to the thought that a cat may have sight between worlds, hence the idea that a witch should always have a cat. I am not a witch, but I have always found cats fascinating creatures, their approach to life I admire. If it comes to reincarnation from one existence to another, it would explain myself, for I am just as indecisive, calculating and a seeker of comfort and warmth as they.

Termyn8or -> RE: Just what is it with cats ? (4/16/2010 10:27:32 PM)

I refute and refuse that anything is supernatural, but I know there are things we do not know. Instinct is still largely unexplainable as well as the method of communication between animals as well as them and humans.

As with anything else I discard nothing summarily, and equally I am reluctant to accept anything that does not go along with what I already know. Thus fiction, as ficticious as it is, once expressed means that others at least have the same notion, if the content is something with which I agree. Even a little bit. With both fact and fiction I get the idea something is going on here.

Now we live in an age of internet parcipitation. This is the ultimate penpalship going. [giving you a minute to digest the new word]

Because of this age we can sometimes see the limits of the language. We can see that there is a big difference between meeting in person and corresponding, or for that matter talking on the phone. However on the net you can't even guage someone's tone of voice. So the actual communication is even more limited.

Limited from what ?

Bon apetite'.

I think your cat is a demonic furry sprite that has hypnotised you and stolen part of your immortal sould to further it's malevolent and vindictive schemes and further it's lust for power. It will haunt you forever unless you give it tuna.
But then, that's all cats.

pahunkboy -> RE: Just what is it with cats ? (4/17/2010 4:27:42 AM)

What goes thru a cats mind?

(more then some CM posters, I suspect. ;-0)
