I don't really have any kind of comprehensive health coverage, at least not in any meaningful sense. My "health" plan is just a payment scheme which insures that I will have to endure less than optimal care and thereby go broke a little more slowly than might otherwise be the case.

An interesting number of people on the silver boards- pay cash for everything.  To include DR visits- and treatments.  The cash price being lower then the insurance rate.

The only serious complaint I have so far is how the insurance and pharmaceutical companies and the Republican administration of George Bush have picked my pocket.

Before Bush I paid a premium for good coverage and had to pay $10 for generic and $15 for a name brand prescription. All of my prescriptions were covered 100% outside of the deductible.

After George Bush I pay a premium for coverage and none of my prescriptions are covered 100 percent…On top of that I hit the donut hole in November and must pay 100 percent of my costs. My prescription costs went from out of pocket $250 to over $2,250 on average for the last two years…Thank you Republican party...why didn't YOU stay the hell out of healthcare...hypocritical bastards.

I have veterans coverage and overall in general I'm very satisfied except for one area...mental health care. I've had to fight them tooth and nail for coverage of that area for my child. Due to the fact that they refuse to cover what I need for her I have not been able to really get her the help she needs because paying for it myself, well I just can't afford it.

Hopefully that donut will be a thing of the past for you, Butch.  At least I hear it will be phased out (when, who only knows though lol).  My husband faces the same on his medicare experience.  When he was first put on medicare (under Bush), his x-rays, CT's, and all his meds were covered.  Now he has a higher co-pay on everything from meds to tests.

I think you often also find a gap between what people think they have and what is actually covered.  Once they start getting into the details they can quickly become dissatisfied.

Oh, come on. Surely you can point out one thing they did that caused you so much pain and money. One bill they passed that caused your payout to go up so much? Unless of course they didn't do anything and you just like blaming shit on the right.

Medicare is horrid .. and tht donut hole cant be phased out fast enough!!

No dental or vison coverage means that those of us who are disabled usually do without that which is needed.

I also agree that it covers much less than it did 5 yrs ago when I first was deemed ' disabled' if they ever felt my whip <EG> they would " think...disabled?"

It is hard for a long time conservative to see the grand old party turn into a monster.

All my life I’ve paid my taxes…keep insurance on my family…years and years of health filling the coffers of both government and health insurance companies. Then when a serious health issue comes along my government goes into collusion with pharmaceuticals and health insurance companies to stifle competition produce monopolies and deny compensation and services.

I don’t want a gift as I’m sure you and your husband don’t either but getting what you deserve and paid for is not too much to ask.

I did MMA ...and I'm not blaming the right... I am blaming the Republican Party and George Bush... that is not the same as conservative my friend. I gave you details if you can’t understand there is not much I can do for you…maybe read some of the other thoughts posted on the subject.

you arent the only one who is slowly coming around to the points I make.  Just I am light years ahead of most out here because what makes this world the way it is takes years of study and people give up espn to do it then get ridiculed on the boards from the tv remote control commandos.

No Butch, we're not looking for handouts.  We don't expect anything to be given to us because one of us got gravely sick.  All I want is our lives to remain in tact with a quality of life that will enable us to enjoy life.  That's it!  We pay our skyrocketting mortgage on time, we pay our insurance premiums, our bills.  All I hope for is that I get my money's worth on these things I'm paying for if or when I should need it.

Big pharma, too.  Don't even get me started with them!! lol 

If you find yourself bored with nothing to do, google the drug called Zemplar.  Zemplar is the latest and greatest drug put out (I can't remember which pharmaceutical company actually makes it).  Zemplar consists mainly of what pharma calls "active Vitamin D".  Active Vitamin D is actually D3.  You can buy a months supply at a vitamin store for about 5 bucks.  How much ya wanna bet, eventually, pharma is going to petition the FDA to take Vit D3 off the market, classifying it as a drug, instead of a supplement.  Wouldn't be the first time pharma did that. 

And people say vitamins are useless.  If you ask me, they are influenced by associations like big pharma who's looking for a quick buck at your expense.

And btw, when my husband went to a kidney specialist because of his high blood pressure, the Dr wanted to put him on Zemplar, but when he told the Dr he already takes D3, the Dr smiled, tore up the prescription, and told him to keep taking it.  Don't get me wrong, he also gave him other bp meds too.  He gave my husband a complete makeover on his bp meds because his bp was getting harder and harder to control.  (Apparently chemo damages your kidneys and damaged kidneys leads to bp problems).  But at least he doesn't have to pay for 'Zemplar' [8|]

All of us want to make it to the end with dignity…We are lucky that modern technology makes this possible…but it should not take every penny you have accumulated in an honorable life to get there.
