as opposed to the peace and harmony of say the old testament?
Keep nothing, kill everything, all animals, men women children, when you move into the land.  You didn't intend to skip over those things while you jawed about another did you?

Just like the Dalai Lama speaks for all buddhists, including the other non tibetan sects that he's spent decades trying to wipe out in his little corner of India: he's been putting a lot of energy into that ever since he fled Tibet, hasn't he?

His enemies wrote the Koran and twisted his words into something that conformed to their own beliefs.

We had a similar case in The Netherlands a while back. A man got blown up by a land mine. The army refused to take responsibility. Eventually they were forced ot submit an evaluation concluding "We the army are responsible". The officer in charge told the secretary: "Add another word, "not". So the conclusion ended up: "We the army are not responsible".

The Koran and all of Islam is not what Mohammed tried to achieve, but what his enemies twisted his efforts into.

It's the transcribers fault he put the 'not' in the wrong place.

We, the transcribers, are responsible.

We'll never know for sure the true meaning.

Status: offline 		It's news to me, and I suspect I've read a bit more history about the founding of Mohammed's little cult than rule has.
His sidekick had a lot of impact on the Koran, and is probably a lot more responsible for the more moderate influences that persist in Islam to this day, but he was hardly an enemy of Mohammed, was he? He wouldn't have offered to transcribe the wanker's blatherings if he was.

Status: offline 		Islam recognises Jesus as a prophet of god, and recognises that it worships the same god as Judaism and Christianity. In the grand scheme of monotheistic intolerance, that's quite peaceful, really.

But it's not; and there's been 1600 years of war waged against Jews and Christians. And, sometimes, vice versa.

But, gee, wouldn't it be great if they buried the hatchet?

Status: offline 		It sucks when religion is used by people with a belligerent agenda. It is not the prerogative of Muslims, however.

Those that flew into the World Trade Center were terrorists. It's about time people stop putting peaceful Muslims (of which there are many) in the same bag as terroristic nuts (of which there are relatively few, notwithstanding the propaganda broadcasted daily on the news).

Of course, the main reason it's so easy to convince Arabs to join terrorist organisations opposed to the American Empire is because most Arabs aren't at all taken with your country's behaviour in the middle east since the second world war, even if Israel wasn't a factor in that. I'd suspect that has a lot more to do with it than Islam in itself. You might as well blame the Pope for the Fenians in Northern Ireland.
