In the recent thread on the Icelandic volcano situation, I elected to post what at the time I saw as a satirical response designed to provoke a few grins.

One of the people here took great exception to what I'd posted, and posted their own angry response to my post.

I do not want to defend the post I made. Hindsight being 20/20, it is especially vivid when you realize that you have in many ways been insensitive and I did not stop to think about how some people were truly suffering in the wake of this event.

So to anyone offended by that post, I hope you will accept my apology for having put it up there.

I have written to the offended party directly to offer  the same sentiment.

If it makes you feel any better, I actually thought it was kind of funny at the  time. Admittedly, when I saw the responses from a couple of Brits. I understood why it might be considered offensive, but I doubt that would have occurred to me unless they'd spoken up. In hindsight, I too can see why they felt that way, but at the time I just didn't see that.

Live and learn, I guess. I know neither of the parties I saw taking exception are the type to hold grudges, and I doubt many other people would cling to any resentments over something like that either. I'm sure it'll all blow over!

I really can't believe I\m saying this but I agree; it was nothing more than a bit of satire - a funny one at that. I had a whaaaaaaat? moment when I read the dark's response, it didn't strike me as having been a seroius post at all. [:)]

I've never understood how anything ever gets done in France. Nobody can understand a word anyone's saying - they're all speaking French!

Seconded (or maybe we're in double figures now) - it was poorly executed by my standards (but then who could live up to them?) but didnt strike me as justifying the response it got.

And I'm English. And some twat wrote "wash me" in the Icelandic volcano dust on my Jag earlier today, so if anyone ought to have been annoyed, its me.

i read it, and thought it was awesome op.....i can understand that someone can take humor wrong when theyre in the middle of the "joke", but hopefully they will figure out the spirit of it, when things are not so fresh...

someone said recently "all humor is offensive to someone"......but i would think those in europe would wish for the volcanos to be afraid of obama and obey!
