Sanity -> RE: Govt by Goldman Sachs (4/18/2010 11:35:28 AM)

You ran away from that argument as I was in the process of exposing Frontline's laughably fraudulent tactics, and I find it extremely disingenuous of you to try to resurrect your ridiculous talking points here after that.

You said you wouldn't argue it anymore, remember?

Thomas, in another thread you tried to argue with me that it was the loans themselves, and not the shit that Goldman did that caused the financial collapse. This activity by Goldman was the topic of the Frontline special I gave you a link to and asked you to watch. AIG was doing the same thing, as was Lehman, Bear Stearns, JP Morgan and Citicorp. The Republican Congress was warned in the 90s that this activity would collapse the financial sector given the right circumstances. You made no effort to try and understand this. Once again, this is not about the regulation or its timing, this is about your hated for Obama. You have been given all the information you needed from me and others to connect the dots, but you insist on connecting them through Obama. His agenda is the nation's agenda and if Greenspan and others had listened to Brooksley Born in the 90s we wouldn't be talking about this now.

If you get to define me and my arguments, I get to define you and yours, right?  [:)]

E,

He is absolutely convinced that Obama and his ilk, who wanted to give loans to poor people, is what caused this crisis. He listens to right-wing fear mongers who spew this bullshit about Wall Street regulation being code for Obama's Marxist agenda to take over the banks. I don't think any facts or reason to the contrary will change his mind.

Fine Thomas...it's a free country and you can choose to be ignorant if you want.

Sanity -> RE: Govt by Goldman Sachs (4/18/2010 12:02:53 PM)

Thats a matter of perspective, of course.

It must be nice to feel you're the one with all the answers, braniac.

jeez...you don't even know the questions....the answers are irrelevant

Brain -> RE: Govt by Goldman Sachs (4/18/2010 7:34:36 PM)

I think what's unfortunate is the SEC doesn't have authority to prosecute criminally. In addition many state attorney general's would like to take action but the right to do so has been legislatively taken away from them by the feds.

thornhappy -> RE: Govt by Goldman Sachs (4/18/2010 8:39:31 PM)

I read about the case and found they'd done the "Magnetar Trade"...and found that Magnetar was only one of about 6 companies that pulled these stunts.  (The story behind this was in the This American Life thread from last week.)

You are right about this. Eliot Spitzer for years tried going after these big financial services firms, especially AIG. Too bad he couldn't keep his dick in his pants. We could use more politicians like him who have the smarts and the will to take on Wall Street.

slvemike4u -> RE: Govt by Goldman Sachs (4/18/2010 9:09:51 PM)

Willful ignorance in order to prop up a flawed political ideology is a sad and pathetic thing.....isn't it?

brainiacsub -> RE: Govt by Goldman Sachs (4/18/2010 9:29:34 PM)

Are you talking about Spitzer or Sanity?

slvemike4u -> RE: Govt by Goldman Sachs (4/18/2010 9:58:23 PM)

In an attempt to avoid a gold border letter....I decline to answer [:)]

So, Is Frontline aware that you are just on the verge of exposing them? And, if not, don't you think you have a moral obligation to let them know? THey have the right to defend themselves, after all.

Here are some Sanity classics...

Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, Democrat Senators, forced the banks to give loans to people who couldn't afford to repay them. Thats what begat the entire sub prime mortgage disaster in the first place, the notion that everybody deserves a house, even if they can't afford one.

Some of the bankers should be in jail. They got us into this mess in the first place.

This is how a "centralist" thinks...

How about another one from a man who doesn't understand the world he lives in....

But look into the favored loans that Countrywide gave to many of our national politicians, tazz, and the legislation that followed.

And look at who is investigating those and every other breach of ethics... and how the investigations are going nowhere - even though these massive and gross violations are public knowledge. AND how all of this is going unreported by the media whores who are in bed with this administration.

But if I see whats going on anyway, why - god forbid! I'm a partisan.

Oh my!!!

Get a mortgage.. see how fast they insist.  You want to drive, gotta have insurance.

It would be a huge mistake to elect the people (the Democrats) who caused this mess into more power, and that's precisely what we're on the verge of doing. President Bush tried hard to stop this meltdown years ago only to be shouted down by the very party who now tries to blame him for their mess...

our country is in for a world of hurt!  i want our next president to cut, i mean slash that damn federal budget.  have any of you looked at how much u pay in federal taxes????  what i pay a month can pay my mortgage!

Sanity has no ability to understand or comprehend the issue at hand...He is blinded by his dedication to his "centrism" beliefs...What a troll!!!

Fellow -> RE: Govt by Goldman Sachs (4/20/2010 1:04:42 PM)

I would like to know how much these problems would go away if there was a true transparency  (adequate information about the financial products) and accountability  (the laws would be actually executed). Goldman Sachs and major banks would not exist today if the laws in books  (for example $1831o http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode12/usc_sec_12_00001831---o000-.html ) would have been followed.
Regrettably, US government is directly involved in the looting situation.  What can you do? I read about huge losses of taxpayer money. Where did it go. Where there is a loss, there is a receiver or the money did not exist (meaning no loss). In 2009 the number of billionaires increased from 793 to 1,011, and their total wealth from $2.4 trillion to $3.6 trillion. This is where the wealth goes. Why is it necessary? To save the economy?  I can not take the last  seriously. Will one of the most corrupt senators (C. Dodd) stop the process with his legislation? The answer is no; the whole thing will crash inevitably.
