If it were here in Missouri I could see the reason in requiring a background check when employing a minor...no big deal I would think. Why is it with you?

Butch

The issue is the amount of time.

Without knowing me, don't forget, not knowing anything, but just drawing from your brain.
First , no way was nor am I a nazi, no way in god's hell or heaven......my response was to the febble-brained who thinks the nazis are being tormented much too much, that germany should just be exempt from owning up to their MOST RECENT history. I had relatives who went up in smoke.....FUCK YOU ALL.

Who Cares.

We dont need this person - we thought it would be a nice thing to do now that might pay dividends later. The cost to us is negligible.

Our objection is that in wanting to do something nice we suddenly get convicted, until proven otherwise, of being abusive people - and we have to pay them to prove us innocent and this young lady gets to sit around doing nothing until August when the record should be available. Sheer stupidity. Especially when we have four rapists, drug dealers, traffickers and axe murderers already working for us who wont be checked.

E

If I was in your position I would tell the agency concerned to go forth and multiply, as this CRB stuff is getting out of hand, and it won't be long before the system is abused, or a previously checked person is caught doing something they shouldn't, as people are people, nowhere does it say because there is no history someone is unlikely to be a threat. For those that refuse to take a CRB test, through issues of privacy, they are coming to be seen as potential criminals because of their unwillingness to let a bunch of beaureacrats examine and judge the applicants life so far.

But, if you decline to take the CRB test to give this young person a future, make sure you publicise the fact, that unwillingness is to do with privacy, not past pecadillos.

Umm, LE, why aren't you hiring back the people who you laid off not so long ago ?

That would solve alot of things all at once, or are they working elswhere now ?

Yea, that one didn't take long at all. He's only been on 14 days and he's already background noise.

You have to "give" to "get".

I must proclaim my ignorance as to the time...hassle...and or cost. But if the price and time are reasonable then why not do it. After all are you not doing it for two reasons, one to help you at a discounted rate and two to give someone experience in the business. Both are good reasons and the check should be only one time or once a year or so.

To me it would just be the cost of doing business and no big thing.

LadyEllen -> RE: a lot of nonsense (4/20/2010 1:42:49 AM)

And now the best bit!

It seems its only necessary that someone in our office has a CRB check - not necessarily we the directors. So now this young lady will get her apprenticeship on the basis that the current youngest member of staff (19 years old) has a CRB check from having worked in a care home for a few months a year or so ago.

Utterly ridiculous. Yesterday we potentially abusive axe murdering company directors were a possible risk to the safety of this young lady and it was vital we were checked out before being entrusted with her - but now, on the strength of another young lady, two years her senior, having been checked out, we are suddenly fine and dandy.
