i plan on doing some BDSM type of photos soon. I'm having a bit of trouble wardrobe-wise. I want to aim for some 1950s Betiie Page-y type of look and I'm not sure where to start.

Help?

Don't jump all over me....but it's my understanding the two looks you have mentioned here are diametrically opposed....Barbie in the '50's and Betty Page(who was for the 50's a porn/fetish model)have absolutly nothing in common.Now admittedly being born in '59 doesn't make me an expert on the period  I still don't see how the two looks can be viewed as interchangeable so to speak....Two separate series of shots would work...but thinking of the two of them as linked,,,,uh uh,doesn't work.

oh pssh! i wouldn't jump all over you! but when i said "barbie", it moreso means "typical" from my standpoint. so what i would like to go for is a mixture of a pretty standard dominatrix fantasy look(everybody knows what that is lol) and bettie page...not sure how to combine the two. is that a bit more clear?

Clear,hell...Betty Page is(imo) the standard dominatrix fantasy.
Now after all of this I do hope you haven't been hoping to get wardrobe tips from someone like me ;-) While I know what makes my knees weak....it's not like I can tell you, in wardrobe language,exactly what that is......I just mknow(feel) it when I see it....lol

Mike is right on the nose. Barbie & Bettie are 2 different looks all together.

But I can tell you quite precisely what it is. I've pulled it off more than once ;-)

If you are going for Bettie, you are looking for 1950s bondage model and pin-up girl.

I think one of the best places to shop would be vintage clothing stores but the good stuff is often hidden or snatched up right away so you might want to go often.

Underneath

Some of the key elements are the seamed stocking and/or fishnets. If you can find the seamed ones with the reinforced foot, even better.

Notice also that the pumps are patent black leather heels with no platform. One way to ruin the look is to wear modern day platform fetish shoes (I call them stripper/tranny shoes). You have to go with flat, patent and simple.

Bettie also never wore thongs - they were actually full bottom panties. Sometimes they were frilly. That was the style of the day.

She was also huge on corsets:

I am absolutely not getting how 50's barbie and a dominant are not connected visually. She had the high insole step, with heels that could stomp any guy. Her boobs were pointed, firm and high and showed off her exceptionally small waist very well. She was made to show off a nice corset, stockings and heels. Her eyes were heavily lined in black with her glance cast off to one side giving her somewhat of a distainful glance. And her lips were full with no hint of a pout to them. The hairstyle of the early barbies were ponytailed with curly bangs.
To create this doll in the image of a dominatrix you would only have to remove her hair and get her a small wig in a pageboy style. I think the size is 3.5 but you would have to check on that.

ok- gettin a bit flustered/frustrated... moreso with myself since i'm not conveying my intentions correctly. i want a mix of modern day barbie-ish dominatrix fantasy look and Bettie Page. i know the devine and sadly departed Ms. Page's look backwards and forwards, my problem is that i'm not sure how to mix in the sterotype of the dominatrix fantasy. going into more detail- i want the mood of the shoot to be half innocent and wholesome mixed with the obviously sinful BDSM flavour(what a freaking combo lol) so is anybody getting me now?

Bettie Page IS the dominatrix fantasy. You don't need to mix it in.

Check out pictures of Dita von Teese.  She looks a lot like Bettie Page and she also does fetish modeling.  I know she has outfits that look like 1950s fashion but are actually made from latex, leather, or other "fetish" materials.  Studying her photos might help give you some ideas.

I didn't mean to tick anyone off...and I never said Barbie couldn't work as a Domme....all I said was there was no relationship or connection to Betty Page...now if you see a way to link the two....cool,but it just doesn't work for me.
Feel free to scroll up and take a gander at Betty Page(courtesy of the lovely Lady Angelika...thanks again ;-) and see if you can identify like similarities...other than they are both female(one actually a real flesh and bones female...lol).

I think I may have created too many dolls. I am not getting how a standard today barbie or a vintage model barbie cannot be made into a fetish doll with a great deal of ease. Costuming is easy. Stockings, garter, corset. Makeup is easy. Modern barbies come in a variety of facial looks. If I were going to go innocent it could be done using a classic Steffie facial model (barbie), or even the superstar toothy smile look. Black hair is more difficult to find on a light skinned doll which would fit in with the look old Bettie, but if you look around you can find one. If not, doll wigs can be found in doll supply shops. Posing is limited to how many joints are built into your doll. Current dolls in the 25 dollar and up range had jointed knees, elbows, and wrists.

I stopped making dolls and those kinky sort never made it to my legitimate doll site so I don't have any images. But you can do a search on BDSM barbie, or SM barbie, or Kink Barbie, or Bondage Barbie.. ect ect.

I knew quite a few other doll recreationists that perverted the girl. How innocent you want to make it is up to you.

I'm having a little difficulty making myself clear and understood  the last couple of days...I apologise for that.If the last was directed at my Betty/Barbie statement again let me stress that Barbie I'm sure could have been a hell of a Domme(or the image of,since she is actually a doll ...lol) she just can't be confused for Betty.That's all and that's it...participation in this thread is starting to make me question my manhood....so I'm outta here.

A shot in the dark here, MissA, but do you mean a Barbie outlook, with Bettie Page kink? Snobby, slutty, and in control?

Just to help with the search:  those with the reinforced foot are called "Cuban Heel" stockings - like the ones in your photos.  [:)]
