Why don't you provide us with a few examples Tim, based on the way you write I'm sure the archives are positively bursting with cases.

Musicmystery -> RE: Don't See Don't Tell (4/21/2010 10:57:44 AM)

Get serious. The control of dissent in campaign events alone was so legendary. Then the clampdown on war coverage.

And that's just 2000-2001.

Sanity -> RE: Don't See Don't Tell (4/21/2010 10:59:50 AM)

The DNC had Free Speech Zones Tim, so be specific. I want a real example of something similar that the previous regime did, is it really so difficult to find something?

Again, I don't agree with the DNC's approach either.

You're spoiling for an argument that doesn't exist.

And, as your update shows, the current "regime" didn't do this either.

Seriously, you want to claim the Bush Administration did nothing to clamp down on dissent, never complained about media coverage, you just enjoy your little fantasy.

No examples though...  you're really full of it.   [:D]

Musicmystery -> RE: Don't See Don't Tell (4/21/2010 11:07:53 AM)

Doesn't exist if you don't look at it, huh? How's that working out for you?

I just gave you Results 1 - 10 of about 196,000 for Bush stifles dissent.

I can't keep up with your edits

The point is this---you obviously want to have an argument.

If we instead want open government, it can't be from behind partisan walls.

All that engenders is selective misuse of a principle to cast more obfuscation.

You posted AFTER my edit.

Sanity -> RE: Don't See Don't Tell (4/21/2010 11:16:39 AM)

I was referring to my post #25 in response to your post #24. I may POST after your edit but that has nothing to do with what time I began a reply compared to your edit, and I don't as a habit check if someones edited a post I'm trying to reply to before hitting the "ok" button

Sanity -> RE: Don't See Don't Tell (4/21/2010 11:19:05 AM)

That was just a Google search, Tim, and there were no news articles there.

Partisan websites mostly, and a Kerry speech, nothing solid.

Musicmystery -> RE: Don't See Don't Tell (4/21/2010 11:32:08 AM)

Your Internet search broken, along with your selective memory?

http://query.nytimes.com/search/sitesearch?query=Bush+stifles+dissent&more=date_all
But what's the point? You know ahead of time you'll brush aside whatever. And I don't work for you.

As long as people like you, right and left, point with one hand and cover their eyes with the other, we will increasingly move toward more secrecy and more loss of liberty. The Bush power plays and the Obama ones remain as precedent, tools for some future misuse we would all oppose together, but too late to do so effectively. Your thirst (and theirs) for partisan battle over an imaginary left/right divide enables this, making possible the very abuses you're pretending to protest.

Still nothing specific. Among your shotgun headlines,

You're joking, right?

Musicmystery -> RE: Don't See Don't Tell (4/21/2010 12:08:38 PM)

This is a silly game.

Surely you understand the concept of narrowing and qualifying an Internet search.

Sanity -> RE: Don't See Don't Tell (4/21/2010 12:16:00 PM)

Its okay Tim, if you don't have anything specific I understand.

No worries.

Musicmystery -> RE: Don't See Don't Tell (4/21/2010 12:16:51 PM)

You have fun (plenty of specific ones there too).

But think about what I said. I'm very serious about that.

If you're going to stand for something, then stand for it.

Well put.

Watching the video,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaBk1dUF9nM&feature=player_embedded#!

I find it incredulous that a rookie cop took it on himself to close Lafayette Park. I counted at least three NPSP vehicles at the scene as well as several other officers, and there are protests there all the time.

These national park police didn't have any supervision?

Just seems odd.

KITTYLECTRO -> RE: Don't See Don't Tell (4/21/2010 4:35:00 PM)

Looks like it's getting a bit crowded under that bus...

Funny thing, Pahunk. It's completely non-scientific of course, but a higher percentage of my gay friends are veterans of the armed forces than the percentage among the straight ones.

I'm just going to ignore your other bullshit about military service.
