That's a good question.  I've had to explain many times my irrational dislike of talking on the phone.  Not so much a phobia, but more like an aversion. I just don't like talking to someone I don't know well on the phone. It's uncomfortable to me.

And I've had creepy closets too.  I had a closet in my apartment I didn't like for a long time and then one day the creepy feeling just kind of went away.  I don't know what changed.  But there could be a reasonable explanation for your discomfort.

No worries about how you are seen - that's pretty well covered.

Suggestion for the scary closet:
Get one of your submissives (or maybe just a good friend) to totally clean it out, paint it inside and out.
Then have them spend some good time sitting in it - Door open/ajar- perhaps as part of a D/s scene.
Set a light that goes on when you open the door.
Play good music, run some yummy scented candles or incense in there - take bright and artistic photos while they are there.. have then sort out your things according to colour or size.

This is just a basic reconditioning to make it easier for you, after all, it is the unfamiliar that tends to be a bit more creepy than the well inspected and under controlled spaces in our lives.

Yes, I understood that it was 'her way', not 'the way'. But one can still have integrity, strength, self-control, etc., be dominant, yet not sound so humourless. It just all smacks of 'trying too hard' to me. If you're a genuine person, you shouldn't have to try to be anything more than who you are. But perhaps that's the Brit in me: we think taking ourselves too seriously to be a cardinal sin.

Maybe it's just a question of striking the right balance, and the right tone. I don't think there's anything wrong with acknowledging and laughing at one's own failings - in fact, I think there's everything right with it, and I'm prone to self-deprecating humour myself. But I don't see why acknowledging failings and not taking oneself too seriously should preclude recognising strengths, and trying to build on them. I mean, I know you only through your posts on these forums, but I've seen enough to be quite certain that your talents extend well beyond cracking a beer with dinner!

It is only human to be afraid of things in the dark that you would not be afraid of during the daytime. It is a survival mechanism that served humans well for millions of years, even though it is not as necessary in todays world as it was in the past.

An ancient Chinese proverb comes to mind.  Actually I made it up, but same difference.   If you can't laugh at yourself, everyone else will be glad to do it for you.
