ShaharThorne -> *ready to get a shotgun* (4/23/2010 7:34:31 AM)

I am trying to access collarme for an email and it is not going there, just a long time waiting (and not getting there).  Can someone test it out to see if it is a part of my imagination or else I get to go ballistic and kill this lag...

It's not just you. The server's slow.  I suspect the mods have it tied up and are beating it...

Thanks...I have to get going now...time to hit wallyworld and get these capris swamped over for a decent pair of pants...

My to-do list is very long today...lets see, make Lizard go to school...get up...go to collarme (NOT)...get to wallyworld and get a decent pair of pants that can actually fix...flip off the train for its damn whistle...get catnip and rub it on the scratching posts for Binx.

The shotgun won't work. More on that later.

I've seen some delay, especially after I read a mail and want to go back to the list. Also the pictures to the left in the forum seem to be loading slowly, in fact yesterday they were timing out. I have actually closed the browser and restarted (which might find a new socket or some such, I am no expert) and the problem persisted. It is definitely a server side problem, and I suppose they will fix it when they can.

As far as the efficay of a shotgun as a PC service tool, it ain't gonna work. I've tried it personally on cars, bars and guitars. Didn't work. Equally ineffective are hammers and the fist. Tried them all. No good.

I go for some nitro or a stick of TNT  This computer is old but still work like a charm at times.

Get a shotgun anyway. They're fun.

FR

I am now in the second instance of IE, and up till a few seconds ago was waiting impatiently for a mail to get sent. It was not all that long and had no attachments, but it took forever. Yet the main page opened up as quickly as ever.

Now I just went back to that first instance of IE and it said message was sent, and then I hit back and it said the I was not logged in and message was not sent.

Now in the other window, I just went to sent mail and it shows up, text and all. Indicates that it was not read yet, well it was just sent a few minutes ago. Adding all this up I think that maybe CM uses more then one server, and they might not all be at the same location. Actually collarchat, which is what we are on right now is a totally different name. Maybe the other server is trafficed out. Images have been loading slowly, mail is better of thrown in a mailbox at times. (sarcasm is still allowed right ?)

What I am thinking is that we can't go by times because this site is international, so maybe there is just that much traffic. Maybe there are alot of people using video chat or something like that which eats up bandwidth. It doesn't seem like a real server side error, it sounds more like a browser timeout when communcation is slow. And if you even reboot, it doesn't fix it so it isn't RAM cram. There ain't a machine in this house with less than a gig anyway, in fact all but one have two gigs apiece. I have tier two DSL and have no problems whatsoever with anything else.

So with my limited knowledge, which may be limited but does exist, I conclude at the moment it is a traffic problem, a bottleneck in the net to the server that handles these things. At least it is not an unreasonabke conclusion and would go far to explain these symptoms.

Best I can do right now. Want an IT pro ? I know one.

The PC is not the problem. This site being hosted on a 386 is the problem. But you are correct - guns are not the answer. I have a problem with locked files. I deal with a lot of large avi files. On a regular basis I wish to rename, move or delete them. My computer will not allow me to do these tasks sometimes because the file is locked and is in use by another program. Al indications are that Explorer cannot act on the file because it is in use by ...... (wait for it)....... Explorer. Eventually I can manipulate the file as I wish but sometimes it means just waiting a while until the PC's back is turned. I've tried every file unlocker imaginable and they all are mediocre at best. Having threatened my PC with my 9mm on at least one occasion was fruitless. They are fearless and bulletproof.

Nothing sounds cooler than a pump shotgun being cycled.

Termyn8or -> RE: *ready to get a shotgun* (4/24/2010 1:46:22 PM)

Funny, just shot one off from the ole .38 the other day, first time in about eight months. However with no PC problems at the moment, I shot into a gravel draiveway, of course after making sure noone was there.

People were like WTF ? I was like WTF about it. I made a noise so what. After that we continued the party/discussion.

But I used to absolutely destroy things and I can't even count how many times I was sorry because later I could've made $$$ from parting them out. But really after I smashed the Olds Toronado GT W34 nothing much really mattered to me. I was always on the prowl to buy another one.

But really I am not going to let angst cost me another thin dime. I don't like waste so it would be totally insane for me myself to cause that waste.

I don't mean to get too Terminatorish here, but once I found that control is better than chaos (no comment) I applied that to machinery as well. I have accepted that everything you buy is a piece of shit. Then we go from there and save $$$ instead of wasting them.

Took awhile, but you would be surprised to see what I have left in my wake in life.
