ORIGINAL: Gauge While I agree that his oath should hold him to a higher standard, what is the difference between a priest that abuses children and a government official? I am not sure that he should be held to a higher standard than anyone else, but the idea behind the title of the thread is that this is beyond despicable in any number of ways. When people of authority violate the law it creates disrespect for the whole system. I mean how would you feel if the guy with his finger on the nuclear button was a dry drunk and occasionally fell off the wagon? Would you be comfortable with that? Oh wait... When Scalia become a SCOTUS Justice I was glad because I thought that we would then have a strong opinion in support of the Constitution. Then there was the whole appointing Bush president fiasco, his various conflicts of interest being exposed, and then there was that "take it up the ass" thing the other day. Now the guy just looks like a thug and an asshole - corrupted by power. His opinions are worse all the time. In 2000 the Constitution might as well have been toilet paper. I guess it's always been this way and why Thomas Jefferson's political views are always relevant - not the Jefferson was a saint either. And maybe that's the whole point - no one is a saint, everyone in power should be under intense scrutiny all the time. Giving this guy a pass at Homeland Security just shows how flawed and politically motivated this "anti-terrorist" shit actually is. How can these morons protect us when they can so easily be infiltrated by an undesirable themselves? Yeah, good going guys...
