In an unusually blunt appeal, Abbas said that if Obama believes Palestinian statehood is a vital U.S. interest, then the American leader must take forceful steps to bring it about. "Since you, Mr. President and you, the members of the American administration, believe in this, it is your duty to call for the steps in order to reach the solution and impose the solution — impose it," Abbas said in a speech to leaders of his Fatah movement. Israel is a friend. As long as Israel keeps on stealing Arab land there will never be peace in the Middle East. What President has had any skill in advancing Israeli-Palestinian peace?

WTF? Abbas is almost out of the process altogether. Hamas wields more clout. The US keeps hoping that if we recognize Abbas, he'll gain power domestically. His speech implies that the US and Israel are linked at the hip, while he's smart enough to know otherwise. I suspect that his speech was designed to appeal to his home audience, rather than be taken seriously by the US or Israel.

Perhaps you would have prefered it if they had disappeared like the agressors wanted. Furthermore, every peace accord has been violated by WHOM? Not Isreal.

Israeli governments have blocked or otherwise wrecked every attempt to resolve the situation and have engaged in every crime imaginable including the sorts of crimes in respect of which certain other governments have faced serious sanctions including forcible removal followed by the trial of their officials. That the Israel lobby in the US (and UK) enables this ongoing criminality to persist unanswered still less remedied is regrettable for two reasons - firstly the failure to resolve the situation, secondly its effect in making our countries complicit in the situation. I don't understand why our Presidents serially persist in pissing around in places where we have no vital interest. What am I missing in the Middle East and Southeast Asia? Meanwhile China is gobbling up mineral resouces in Africa and Latin America. Meh?

Just used to people equating anti-Israeli sentiment with antisemitism.
