You need to start moving. Who gives a fuck about lemons?

You are looking for the easy way out. This is why you will fail.

angelika posted about cinnamon etc. I answered her back.

No I won't fail and I am not looking for an easy way out.

My weight is going down and I am thrilled.

4.2 gms of sugar equal one teaspoon. However when you compare two cereals  you want to read both the amounts per serving of sugar and of fiber. A gram or two more of  sugar is better than half the fiber. The more fiber the better.

Hmm really, cause it says low glycemic index and my dr approved of it for me.

I hear you there, it's like wine, one study said a glass a day did a womans heart good, then the next study said if you drink wine you're at a higher risk for breast cancer. One particular bit of "wisdome" was soy milk is better for you than cows milk, but then there's something come out saying soy beans are not good for women.

Aquave was recommended by a t.v. Doctor and a magazine came out and said that it isn't good for you. It raises your blood sugar. There was a study done on the above and it came out against most of the above ingredients.

One study negates another positive one. It is enough to drive one nuts.

Soy does affect females and usually recommend for daily use (I took soy for a short time after my hystrectomy until the doc say to stop).

I'm a  RN,

You could start with diet modification of an American Diabetics Association- this is a great national resource.  Learn about it, support groups, etc.  Remember the things you love to eat don't have to come  out of your diet completely.  Its all about moderation.  A1C test goes over a 3 month period.   This will be a good indicator as to how you're doing.

Limit your sugars- Limit carbs.

The diabetic prevention really is just about eating what is healthy.

6 small meals throughout the day.

Walking is your best exercise -which diabetics need to expel more energy to force the sugar out of the blood and into your cells.

The problem is most of the food you buy off the shelf is junk. Filled with garbage, designed to keep you a fat hungry consumer.
This is what worked for me,
Eliminate all red meat, poultry and seafood.
Eliminate all sugars, including honey, maple syrup, fruit, and please no artificial sweeteners
Eliminate all dairy products, including cheese and eggs
Eliminate all processed foods
This is basically a vegan/plant based diet. Whole grains, beans, vegetables. It will work wonders for almost any condition, as long as your diabetes is not too far gone it should cure it.
And no, you do not need the "protein" from meat and dairy. A proper balance will sustain you throughout the day. It has been over 2 years since I went vegan, I have a physical job, on my feet all day, walk 1/2 hour twice a day every day, and work around the house every night and all weekend. And I can still outwork any 3 men in the shop.
Eating this way caused me to lose 45 lbs in 60 days, 80 lbs in six months. I did find myself a bit weak after about 9 months, and upped my intake of oil, put back about 12 lbs.

It's interesting the variances from person to person, since Chicken and fish, like Salmon, and Tuna, was, perfectly fine to have I was told by my nutritionists and dr. Though, they say skinless is best, and skin's my favorite part of the chicken, so I eat it anyway. And I hate most fish, I am extremely picky about what kind I will eat and how I will eat it, and admittedly, it's fried or battered or some kind, so I know it aint healthy, but again, I don't care lol. It's not like I am eating it everyday, or hell even monthly.

Soy is a plant estrogen. Most women can tolerate it but a significant minority discover it interferes with the working of the thyroid.

Ok, I did read yesterday, in readers digest, The artical where it says Guava, is no longer considered better for you than sugar if you have diabetes.

Eat 40:30:30 ratio of carbs:protein:fat

eat fresh, real foods. avoid packaged food
no more soda. not even diet.
replace sugar in tea with agave nectar or honey. small amount to taste.

carbs should come from fruits, veggies and some grain
proteins should come from lean REAL meats (not deli, not hot dogs, but REAL)
fats should come from olive oil, nuts, avocados

eat every 3 hours. 4-5 meals, 1-2 snacks.

it's my opinion that if you eat like this, even in huge quantities, it is impossible for your body to not function amazingly ell.

My biggest problem is I am addicted to sugar. And sugar from what I have read is like being addicted to another addictive drug.

I don't smoke nor drink. Unfortunately I am addicted to food.

I do know the feeling of being addicted to sugar, as I am in that club. 2 years ago I lost 12kg in 10 weeks just with cutting down my sugar treats to once a week! Hence chocolate and coca cola I consumed one bar and one (smallish) bottle per week...and over time I got used to it and after a while surprisingly coke didnt really taste anymore and I only finished it as I had paid for it and as I knew I used to like it. At a later time I then also had weeks where I didn't buy coke at all as it hadn't appealed to me anymore... I was amazed how much difference that damn sugar made...

unfortunately due to a very difficult time due to a change in private circumstances as some folks from here know I then ended up back in my sugar circle and ended up back at square one.

However from next week onwards I want to get back to my habbit to cut it down to once a week, with the mental support from the Dom I am currently dating (I did do well last time pretty much on my own, however as I consumed far too much now with uni stress the beginning is very hard) as I need to get ridd of a certain amount of weight again, not only for health reasons but also to make sure I fit into my damn expensive dress which I bought in the sales in january last year to wear it at my graduation next year february[8|][8|][8|]...so I know that if I start now I will certainly achieve that, having lost a jeans size binnen 3 months last time [:)]
So maybe it would also help you to cut it down to once or twice a week as a start??? (assuming you might have it more often when you say you are addicted to it).

You might be amazed as well how much difference it does make.

Also it might help you to go for chocolate which is higher in kakao instead of higher in sugar??? the bars who say 70% and more kakao, as they have less sugar!

In regards to diabetes, I am not pre-diabetic and part of cutting down my stuff is of course to try to avoid to ever get there, however, I supported adults with learning disabilities with their diabetes where we had one lady whose sugar level was a jojo...though she was diabetic since 30+ years already, she was at times a real challenge for us to get her level ok.

However, for her and her partner who had diabetes as well we gave them tab water to get it down!!!
and small amounts of fizzy drinks or tea with sugar to get it up.

Also to get it up (I think it was to get it up, wouldnt put my hand into fire on that one, it is a few years ago) we used porridge mixed with honey or banana...as they liked to eat their porridge anyway...

So if I would be you I would try to reduce sugar intake to very few days per week as a start and look for substitutes which contain less sugar...such as chocolate with high percentage of kakao (IF chocolate is one of your sugary treats).

Best wishes :o)
