Yeah sounds very unbiased. They didn't rule out the possibility of such magical powers not existing in their mission statement, I note

A|t least they had the open mindedness to do serious research to either prove or disprove the existence.

I regret to have no idea what this your sentence means. Emphasis? Qualifying? Previously? I know what the words mean, but I do not know what you are talking about.

Usually if you say someone is wrong or misleading you go on to say how they are wrong or misleading, not start a whole new conversation.

These are the type of people that go on to make others claims they can cure cancer with the power of thought.

I think that abhorrent, obviously I'm alone in that am I?

Yea you are.

SohCahToa -> RE: another rant (4/25/2010 5:49:20 PM)

Well I'm not actually because you see more and more fraudsters being prosecuted for it. Join the club if you like.

So if someone claims the sun is a cube and I say that is a wrong or misleading statement, according to you I should say how they are wrong or misleading? I will not.

SohCahToa -> RE: another rant (4/25/2010 5:57:21 PM)

Rule your original reply made no sense and now you are having me dissect why it didn't make sense and now have gone off on a tangent arguing the toss about something else. You accused me of creating a straw man argument and followed that with a load of rubbish about the divine, so no it made no sense.

I don't want to talk about how to react to someone saying the sun is a cube, you are taking what I said to an unrealistic extreme now.

Well yeah spiritual energy is pure fantasy, if it existed people could see the murderers walking amongst them.

You mean you can't? Hmmmmmm

I think we need to return to the Old Testament and take this child to the city limits and stone her to death. The Old Testament says if a child does certain things they face death or being cut off from there people.

The Old Testament has been superseded by the New Testament.

Not for us Jews, it isn't.

Now I see all of you perfect people so mistake free taking me apart so I guess since Jesus hates me and you wonderful folks do to I will just put the period on my life. Then you people on collar chat can continue in your perfect grammar and spelling without my mistakes. My old arthritic fingers that have been broken will not need your sympathy either cause you will have enlightened me to see it is time for the period and paragraph on my life.

Fella, your whining tone here conflicts with your judgmental tone of your first post.

Apologies for thread hijacking.

Steven is your ticket bought or am i meant to stay permanently tied up awaiting your arrival.

Speaking of whining tones... you'll stay tied up and jolly like it until I get around to buying a ticket.  I promise you that I will attempt to do so in 2010.

Spiritual energy and physics are not even vaguely related

Not really taking any specific stance on whether the theories are right, I do see a correlation between them.

I think that the basic concepts of magic/spiritual energy and physics can be seen as related in some instances.

Whether you call it the "Golden Rule," Three-fold Law,  Law of Causality, Karma, or Newton's III Law of Motion.  Causality  is pretty  much a common thread throughout.

Just to cite a few examples (not to be preachy or anything):

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A person reaps what he sows.
(Gal. 6:7)

All things whatsoever you would that men should do to you,
do even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
(Matthew 7:12)

Buddhist view on Karma

...Whatever karma I create, whether good or evil, that I shall inherit."
The Buddha, Anguttara Nikaya V.57 - Upajjhatthana Sutta

The Texts of Taoism, Part II, translated by James Legge, includes a short text called the Thai-Shang Tractate of Actions and Their Retributions, which describes a Taoist concept of something very like karma. Thus, the text says:

1. There are no special doors for calamity and happiness (in men's lot); they come as men themselves call them. Their recompenses follow good and evil as the shadow follows the substance.

Newton's III Law of Motion
For every action, there's an equal and opposite reaction.

So if someone claims the sun is a cube and I say that is a wrong or misleading statement, according to you I should say how they are wrong or misleading? I will not.

Why not? It's a thirty second explanation.

The sun is a mass of mainly hydrogen and helium. It emits a lot of heat and light.

In order for hydrogen to emit light it has to get pretty hot. When hydrogen is hot it is a fluid of some description (either a gas or a plasma).

Clumps of fluid will *always* attempt to form spheres-all the atoms in the clump are attracted to one another, and a sphere is the shape with the smallest suurface area, which means that as many of the atoms are close together as possible.

Raindrops do the same thing.
