pops understands the complexity of Chicago's crime rate. He once saw a skyscraper and a negro.

Thankfully, he's a specie on the verge of extinction.

Well Popeye, I see where you are going. I'm neither a liberal or a politician, so my answer won't be the obvious. Me personally? Thank God that crime is lowering and the city is getting safer. Scumbag answer? Curse God for lowering crime rates and pray for more crime. However one doesn't need to be a liberal to think this way. Greed is greed, and it knows no political persuasion, race, or religion.

And sorry mate, I had misunderstood what you had said. Looking back, of course you wouldn't have said liberals enjoy crime.

Wolfe, no worries Mate.
Unfortunately in the U.S. getting "federal dollars" is an "industry."

LOL, I didn't mean it like that, Sailors say "Mate" too, as a matter of fact that's more than likely where the Australians got it from!

Sorry. "No worries, mate" is Aussie slang. "Mate" in general is used quite frequently in Britain and Ireland. I was born in Belfast and lived there until I was five, but visited it quite frequently after we moved here. Much of my accent is gone, but my slang and speech patterns remained.

Oh cool, I thought there might be an Irish connection with the name "WolfTone."
My people came from Donegal and Sligo.

Cheers mate. I've been through Donegal, which is historically a part of Ulster. Have you ever been? If not, go. Head out to Toraigh Island sometime and you can meet the only king in Ireland. He's not a king as you would think, just a local custom.

WolfTone, yes, I've been over three times and have dual US/Irish citizenship.
I usually stop into Teelin to Altan's pub. My pat. grandparents came from Buncranna and Moeville right next to Derry.

JLF, you can't carry a gun legally in the state of Illinois at all!
Gee, "gun control laws" work so well don't they? They should "allow" citizens to start carrying guns again and watch the crime go down again.
Whatever they're doing now is certainly not working is it?

Sorry to burst your bubble but Illinois does allow unconcealed carry just like everywhere else. We even allow concealed carry but still require an actual reason.

The city of Chicago does ban possesion inside the city but despite a couple of state reps trying to get some press the city has a much lower crime rate than in years past.

DomKen, I'm looking at my copy of "The traveler's guide to the firearm laws of the fifty states" by J. Scott Kappas, Esq. and under Illinois it says; Open Carry, "prohibited in all public areas."
"Concealed Carry, no provision for concealed carry licensing."
It says there are, "a wide assortment of laws that are piled layer upon layer in the land of Lincoln."
It rates Ill. "29" out of a freedom scale of 1- 100.
It says, "Chicago is a world unto itself as regards numerous gunlaws."

Sounds like more of the usual propoganda. I hunt downstate, out of the CWD zone, every year. I never have had any trouble with transporting my guns. I know people who work as private security who have concealed carry permits. It just takes having a legit need and putting up a bond.

Wrong!!! Illinois has no concealed carry permit, they have an FOID card, which is impossible to get in Cook and the collar counties unless your a LEO, or an armed security guard, and if you're a security guard you can only carry a 6 shot revolver.

  • Permit to carry handguns? No***
* Subject to municipal control. Handguns have been banned in some municipalities. ** Chicago requires registration of all firearms. *** Carrying a concealed weapon is prohibited entirely. A FOID is required to transport a handgun. See "Carrying."

Much of the crime and murders in Chicago are gang related. Some of the others that end up getting killed are collateral damage due to nothing more than being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

If someone thinks that the gangs are not "armed" please talk to the LEO's in Chicago.

I am so thrilled that subrob and pops are concerned that the gangs in Chicago are walking around unarmed.

Bullshit. I live in Chicago and have a FOID and I've never worked as a LEO. I store my guns outside the city and have had no problems. According to my friend who does bodyguard work the trick to getting a concealed carry permit is getting named a 'conservator of the peace.' Which apparently is most LEO and some other municipal employees. Once you have the permit you can retain it as long as you pbey the rules.

Like I said, you have to "Be the man" in order carry concealed in Illinois...
quote:

5 Become a mayor, alderman, president, trustee, marshal, deputy marshal or policeman. Pass a training course given by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board. This will make you a "conservator of the peace" as defined in the Illinois Municipal Code, Article 3.1, Division 15, Paragraph 25.
http://www.ehow.com/how_2061096_get-permit-carry-concealed-weapon.html
If you have a FOID, why do you keep your handguns outside of the city? Weren't yours grandfathered in when the handgun ban was set in place?

DomKen, Wow! And you don't see anything "wrong" with that? What if they had "permit" requirements to vote?
In this state (SC) you can keep a loaded handgun in your vehicle, no "permit" required.
Now they do make you take an eight hour gun safety/law course to get your concealed weapons lisense and do a thourough background check on you (SLED) but once you pass those things they "will issue."
Sheesh DomKen, I actually feel sorry for you. I wouldn't live in a state like that! In S.C. we have great weather, reasonable gun laws and I bet you could buy 4 houses here for the price of (one) in Chicago.
Are you stuck there or can you move?
When you're shoveling snow I'm walking on the beach! Oh, and my heating and electric bill for Jan was ...$84.
