Fellow (et alii), that doesn't change the fact the the board of directors and CEO are charged with making the most profit possible. They are answerable to stockholders and then some. But the fact is by hook or by crook, they did well without hurting their image much. It is a tradeoff. For example if you need six million fuel injectors that you can build for $26 each, but can buy them from Bosch for $12 each what do you do ? And the factors that make this hypothetical situation plausible were not created by Ford. They were created by the government.
And this actually goes against Henry Ford's original idea, which was to do everytthing and not job anything out. Input metal, glass and rubber and drive cars out the other side of the building. But they, like anything that survives must adapt. It sucks but it is reality.
At any rate, it's nice to know that someone is making some real money. Perhaps there are some competent people left on the planet. And I have always driven GM, almost exclusively, but when they got their welfare check one of the first things they did was to offshore a bit more of the operation, which is killing the golden goose. Such things are short sighted and IMO stupid. They are destroying the most lucrative market in the world because it is getting to the point that nobody will have any money with which to buy products in the future. People just don't see how fucking dumb college graduates, supposedly "qualified" can be. A quick refernce to Henry Ford is at http://www.hfmgv.org/exhibits/hf/. Strangely it doesn't mention a college education. Why ? Would historians neglect such a facet of his history ? I think not. It says he bacame an engineer at Edison. How did he become an engineer all the sudden ?
By definition an engineer is someone who designs things and possibly builds them and/or directs their construction. I fit that definition and I am a tenth grade droput.
Education happens at home, and I did notice that someone with the last name Ford is still involved with the company. Sure they probably send their kids to school now, but Henry was a farm boy. People think that the only way from there to where Henry Ford made it in life requires a sheepskin, and that is simply not true. And that assumption has put way too many of the wrong people in positions of power.
That's my opinion. And I wonder just how much power Bill Ford has now over the operation of the company. I am not assuming the bloodline has everything to do with it, except when it comes just WHO had the early influences on the lives of the true innovators in the world. How does a farm boy gain world fame for REAL accomplishments ? At the time, nobody from Harvard or Yale did it. Either they couldn't or they considered it a waste of time. Whichever reason, that means they do not belong in a position of power.
I have been a GM Man for most of my life, but now if I had to buy a new vehicle, a Ford would be the primary candidate. Not to mention that GM's engineering has been going downhill since about twenty or so years ago. And you won't catch me dead in a Chrysler product. Other than foreign cars, what other choices would I have ?
