I thought I would share this photo with you.  Some of you may have already received it as spam in your email box.  It really is interesting, although the story surrounding it is a complete myth.

Here is the Snopes commentary on it:

Whatever the story is I really like this picture and felt it was well worth sharing.  Enjoy.

Ah, the good ol' Eye of God.  I love that pic.  I have it in one of my Smithsonian magazines somewhere.

(By the way, this is my 1,111th post.  Don't you think that deserves some sort of Lord of the Rings salute?  Oh well.  May the hair on your toes never fall out.)

All I want to know is how the hell do we know it only occurs once every three thousand years? I don't think we were looking at it through high powered telescopes for the last twelve or even six thousand years to confirm the timing as to when this eye opens and shuts.

Uhh, from the Snopes commentary:

Yes, I saw this photo quite some time ago.
It's very beautiful and opens me up to the wonderful
possibilities of whats out there in the space that envelopes Us.

I regret the title of "The Eye of God" though, I see it as a great discovery in science
and what surrounds the littleness of our planet and our existance. But I don't like a religious spin on it.

It's like saying you see the face of Mary in a potatochip.
Don't take me wrong I happen to be a very Spiritual person, religion is another story.

I would give a proper Tolkien salute, but unfortunately I do not have the time to write 10,000 words describing one phrase. ;)
