A Delta flight from Paris to Atlanta was diverted to Bangor, Maine Tuesday after federal air marshals took into custody a suspect who was causing a disturbance, according to U.S. officials and a statement from the Transportation Security Administration.

The Delta airlines website shows flight #273 "diverted."

One U.S. law enforcement official said that two air marshals were "sitting on the guy's chest" as the plane landed.

A Delta spokesperson confirmed the plane had been diverted because of a "disruptive passenger" who was taken into custody by air marshals.

The plane, an Airbus 330, was scheduled to leave Charles DeGaulle airport at 1:30 Paris time and arrive in Atlanta at 5:25 p.m. EST.

If only we had Michael Chertoff back then we would be able to get the orange alert changed to red...then I'd feel much better

I don't know anything about this flight.   It would seem tho- that for as much "security" that there is- that this is- ?  a rerun.

CNN) -- A trans-Atlantic Delta Air Lines flight was diverted to Bangor, Maine, on Tuesday because a passenger claimed he had explosives, law enforcement officials said.

Federal air marshals on board Flight 273 from Paris, France, to Atlanta, Georgia, took the passenger into custody, Delta spokeswoman Susan Elliott said, and he was being questioned by authorities.

In addition to explosives, the detained passenger claimed that he had false documents, two law enforcement officials said. Investigators had found no explosives so far, they said.

The passenger, a U.S. citizen, was not flagged in any databases, they said.

Another consideration.

The guy really wanted to fly to Maine- but that fare was substantially higher.  But what IF there was a problem with the flight?   The entire plane would then have airfare to Maine at the lower price they paid to fly to Atlanta.

So- 300 people saving $200 on the flight - would mean $6000 in cheaper flight cost.

Right?

It seems bad enough to have to leave Paris for Atlanta. But Bangor?! That's just cruel.
