I don't normally do posts like this but hell today watching the news of all the damage and such going on throughout the State of TN, i wish someone would give mother nature some pamprin for her pms. There are other states getting hit just as bad but since i am in TN that's what the news is focusing on at the moment. As of now 20 roads have been closed in Nashville metro area, the property damages being shown is horrendous, cars being covered in water, 5 deaths in TN reported so far when people caught in flash floods and houses being swept away, businesses being covered in water, and we still have another WHOLE DAY of this crap to go tomorrow and they think we will probably get the same amount. While flooding is bad enough, please keep your thoughts that no tornados touch down, there have been warnings and watches all day and more cells still making their way towards us. It looks like Nashville will be breaking the all time record for inches of rain gotten in one day over the next few hours and oh fun we get a full day of all this again tomorrow. The mayor is giving out a special message asking people to stay off the roads as many of them are flooding.

Please keep your thoughts for those dealing with all of this as well as those out there trying to make sure people make it out alive and all of those who will have to deal with the aftermaths.

Some Pamprin would be nice, she is being a hella bitchy right now. Fox and I are safe, but Im attaching a photo of the road in front of our hill here. Half of Nashville is closed and I already told my employers that there was a chance I would not be in in the morning. And what is worse... there is more to come! It is raining again already, so who knows how much more damage there will be by the time we wake up.

Hey VampiresLair, its utterly amazing and scary for so many people. I hope you did stay in today. And there are more storms coming from the south. It is going to be an utter mess to clean up.

I can't stop watching. What's ironic lol was one of my netflix movies this weekend was 2012. I was like well hell i don't need to watch that, i can just watch the news and look outside.

I am watching the jam where people have been stuck for like 5 hours due to a flooded expressway of I-40 near TSU and they are now sending the semi's through and THEY ARE MAKING IT -- yeah!! Maybe once they open up some room, they can start turning the cars around and get those people out of there. The water is coming up inchins into the wheel well of the semi's.

Don't they close flooded roadways? We now add into the school calendar flooding days as well as snow days. And the areas that usually are flooded have permanent signs warning you not to drive on it if flooded.

DesFIP, its a little bit more than the average flooding because of a few inches of rain going on and a few roads get flooded in Middle TN and many southern states.

All i can say is thank goodness this happened over a weekend instead of families stashed all over the place at work and school and such.

In many parts of TN there are civil emergencies. No power, no radio, no way to get to people if they are in trouble.
My thoughts go out to everyone in crisis.

Damn. I really need to call my sister. She lives just outside of Nashville. Thanks for the post, BarelynAngel. I haven't been paying attention to the news, and wasn't even aware all this was going on.

*Hugs to all who live in and around N'ville* I have family there and I am extremely worried. DV and Angel, if there is anything that I can do, please let me know.

*Begin Rant*

I don't understand where the national news is at this point. I understand that there is an oil spill and other disasters going on in other countries, but where is all the disaster relief for our own? I was listening to the news last night while Kenny Chesney was talking and he was asking the same damn thing. Our own is in dire need of help now, I would like to see a song written for this, contributions pouring in from our own, to our own for this. Even the anchorman on the news said that they have been remiss in not giving N'ville enough national media that it deserves right now. I call N'ville my home, I lived there for many years before moving to Ga. and it is heartbreaking that so little is being done to help ensure the safety of all who live there, not just the rich. Mr. Chesney said on the news that people are needing fresh water, and none is being supplied. His own home is under water and he is nowhere near N'ville (I used to live out his way).

Did we learn nothing from New Orleans?

*End Rant*

Not really your fault, the news hasn't been paying attention to N'ville either. :(

We have finally been getting a bit more buzz and many of the counties have gotten federal disaster designation, so th FEMA relief is coming available for those here who need it. They do close flooded roads, but the flash flooding here happened so quickly in some places that there wasnt time for them to find the floods and close them before they were affecting motorists. Of the 17 deaths, most of them were from people whos cars were swept away or who went over embankments or around corners into deep flood waters. We had rivers and creeks run over their banks, so it wasnt JUST the roads. The photo I posted is a gas station next to a creek.

We did miss a day of work, and are now getting back to normal. The water restrictions are still in place, since one of the 2 water treatment plants here was flooded and the other is trying to keep up while the first is repaired. Water is being distributed and the rescues where needed are happening. Most areas the water has or is receeding and now it is a matter of cleaning up and starting over. The sad thing is, many people did not have flood insurance because it had been so many years since a flood happened (1976 to be exact) that they didnt think it was necessary. More people lost vehicles than did lose houses, too, which is going to put a major strain on the economy because now they cannot drive to work either without some sort of assistance. Opryland is closed until sometime in July, they predict.

Thank you for this update. I learned more from you than I have from the news. Out here in Az. the flooding is just now being reported. I talked to my sister and she said the south is being saturated with photos and newsclips. Apparently, those of us on the other side of the country aren't privy to what is happening on the other side of it. *Hugs* My prayers are with you.

Can you even purchase flood insurance of your property doesn't reside in a flood plain? I didn't think you could. We had our "500 year" flood here in Atlanta in last September. My heart goes out to the folks in Tennessee.

You can, the streams and rivers all over the place, flood insurance is available. Most people, though, dont bother with it. For those interested, www.wsmv.com has all the coverage and such.
