We have finally been getting a bit more buzz and many of the counties have gotten federal disaster designation, so th FEMA relief is coming available for those here who need it. They do close flooded roads, but the flash flooding here happened so quickly in some places that there wasnt time for them to find the floods and close them before they were affecting motorists. Of the 17 deaths, most of them were from people whos cars were swept away or who went over embankments or around corners into deep flood waters. We had rivers and creeks run over their banks, so it wasnt JUST the roads. The photo I posted is a gas station next to a creek. We did miss a day of work, and are now getting back to normal. The water restrictions are still in place, since one of the 2 water treatment plants here was flooded and the other is trying to keep up while the first is repaired. Water is being distributed and the rescues where needed are happening. Most areas the water has or is receeding and now it is a matter of cleaning up and starting over. The sad thing is, many people did not have flood insurance because it had been so many years since a flood happened (1976 to be exact) that they didnt think it was necessary. More people lost vehicles than did lose houses, too, which is going to put a major strain on the economy because now they cannot drive to work either without some sort of assistance. Opryland is closed until sometime in July, they predict.
