Hey sunny, I have heard almost universal praise for that book, it's got to be good, I'm thinking.

Another one just placed on my list: a book by David Lipsky, about a road trip he and David Foster Wallce took together, called Although Of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself.

Christina, I think that's Stephen King's son's book, it got good reviews, but it too is on my list.

Library opens in half an hour!

I LOVED the Happy Hollisters!!!! I read every single one of them at the library when I was a kid!!! I've never met anyone else who read those!!! wooooooooooo woooooooooo.

Wasn't it cool that one of them was named "Pam"?  :)

I still have all my originals from the 60's, except for a few.  They smell so musty, lol.  They actually sell them on eBay, and I bought a couple to try to complete the series.  I'll be passing them down to the granddaughter soon....though they're so lame by today's standards, I don't know if she'll even read any of them.

Were any of them named pepper? :)

I'm still working on that one, lol.  I'm going to be needing it in about 2 weeks [;)]

Hi folks,
I read a fun book a couple of years ago - Honeymoon with My Brother. An easy read of a guy who takes lemons and makes lemonade. He gets jilted at the altar - all the guests are already on their way. He has the wedding anyway... kind of. And then he and his brother go on his honeymoon. It's a fun read.

Best,
sunshine

(Level - did you order the books at the library - you can usually do that you know)

Has anyone read "Heart Shaped Box" yet? I'm curious about your reaction. (can't decide whether to buy it or not...)

Read it and loved it before I knew "Stephen King's son" (Joe Hill) wrote it. I also have really liked his other books "20th Century Ghosts" and the new one "Horns." I've bought them all myself. Highly recommend!

sunny: I did order the Guns book, I'm going to check our other library Monday on the Larsson books, or might just buy the first one at B&N tomorrow.

luci: how does Hill "sound", compared to King?

Since we are reminiscing, does anyone cherish a special fondness for:

The Boxcar Children?
Homer Price?
Blue Willow?
The Velvet Room?
Elizabite?

I got a copy of The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith for mothers day[:)]

So far I love it.

subwaythru -> RE: Sunny's Book Club (5/14/2010 8:25:16 AM)

I read different sorts of books at the same time so I can switch back and forth according to my mood and interest at that time of the day, such as philosophy in the wee hours and early morning, gardening books in the evening, and novels for late at night. I have just finished a novel, and am casting about for the next one. Any favorites?

GreedyTop -> RE: Sunny's Book Club (5/14/2010 8:28:43 AM)

You haven't read the series? You're in for a treat. I envy you discovering them.

And I thought I was the only person still living to remember the Happy Hollisters. Tried to interest my daughter in them when young but she had no truck with them. Although she did enjoy the Boxcar Children.

subwaythru -> RE: Sunny's Book Club (5/14/2010 2:17:54 PM)

Oh, fine. There are 900 or more holds on each of the books by Larsson. I will have to come up with something else while I wait, I guess.
