I would like to ask subs/slaves here what their favorite types of gags are. I have a ball gag made out of the same kind of rubber that you get for your dog to fetch. I hate the taste of this thing! I enjoy being gagged, but I'd like to use something other than this rubber dog toy. I've seen leather gags, metal, rubber, and wooden bits (like you'd use on your horse) and something called a 'half-moon' gag. Do any of you subs/slaves out there have opinions on this? (Yes, I know that you wear whatever Master/Mistress orders you to, but I'm serious. I'm buying this thing, and I'd like to have it available in case I'm going to be using it.)

My favorite gag has always been the burning bag of dog shit on the front porch one.

It took about a year for that nasty rubber taste to wear off. Now that it's cracking, I'm not willing to go through that again. I think I'm going to get another ball gag but made of silicon this time. I've seen pvc ones in the past that are softer, easier to bite on, but can't find one now. Oh and whatever you do, get the kind that buckle, not the ones with velcro. My hair gets caught in the velcro and winds up being ripped out.

I don't care for drooling, so my favorite is a pair of (new) sweat socks. One is rolled up, and put halfway down the other. The rolled part fills my mouth, the free ends tie behind my head. Wrap the whole thing with bondage tape for a more official look if the sockish appearance interferes with the decor. This is safer than simply stuffing the mouth, as the second sock prevents the muffling one from going into the throat area.

Have you tried the buckling kind? Hair gets stuck in them too, but I've never used a Velcro gag on anyone so I can't compare. The only gag I have that's hair friendly is a panel gag that buckles in the front.

I did a lot of research on this myself and ended up with what I think works well for me. I have a small mouth so I needed a smaller than usual diameter and I like to bite on the gag...I ended up with a ball and post design made out of silicone. I don't find the velcro closure to be a problem, I just take it off carefully in case hair got caught. The silicone material means it's tasteless and doesn't smell. Got mine from the Stockroom. *tried to put in picture and messed it up so I removed it, now i can't figure out how to put it in again...oh well. [:-] If you are interested it's called the Tantus Beginner Ball Gag.

i don't have issue with velcro - maybe because my hair is longer? i do have issues with ball gags and ring gags (especially) - moderate TMJ. Severe pain in a relatively short order. Also, i have never had a ball gag that i couldn't get out of my mouth....no matter how tight....they seem to not serve much purpose for me. My faves are penis-type gags, and mouth stuffer gags...things that fill inside the mouth and can be bitten down upon, and can't be pushed out of my mouth by me. Panties, socks, washrags also work. [:D]

The bad taste you and DesFIP are talking about is probably from phthalates. There are laws against putting them in a number of products because of the health risks but they are still common in the adult toy industry. So recommend only buying phthalate free toys. Leather and metal seem like terrible materials to use for gags. Leather doesn't deal well with water and I imagine that the bacteria in ones mouth would make things worse. Leather is also porous, so there's no way to completely clean it afterwards. I would expect a leather plug gag to quickly become a manky rotting ball of filth. As for metal I've always worried that my girl would damage her teeth on a metal gag when she starts thrashing. As for my recommendation, if you don't have much of a gag reflex then go with a silicone plug gag.

I generally go for a ball gag but mostly because it looks good.

The problem with the Tantus is that it doesn't look like a ball on the outside. And he likes that traditional look. My hair is 3/4 of the way down my back but there is a lock that starts lower on my neck, maybe that's the one that's getting caught in the velcro? It twists sideways in my mouth and that hurts.

I am looking for a ball gag for one of my subs. Usually we use duct tape, cloth or clothing items (panties).

I prefer a rubber bit gag, far more comfortable on my teeth and jaw and never had a taste issue (probably the quality). Otherwise a sock can do well.

I hate the rubber ball gags - they seem impossible to totally clean, and like someone else mentioned, I can pop them easily out of my mouth. I had a silicone ball gag but the smell was awful. My favorite has been a silicone penis gag - fits nicely, no weird taste or scent, and works just fine. It's velcro and I don't have an issue with my hair if it's put on right. I've never experienced a drooling issue with gags. I can always manage to prevent that, with some effort. The only issue I have is I have bad sinuses, so I need to be able to suck in air through the sides of my mouth. So a tightly fitting gag that sealed off my mouth completely would cause problems for me.

I own a wide collection of gag. One with bad taste are generally cheaply made. Beware of Chineese imports, they will put any filler ingredient in thier stuff. My advice would be to pay a little extra for a nice silicone or rubber gag. A pure silicone should be easy to clean and not have a bad taste.

I've got to say that cloth gags absorb all the saliva and leave my mouth extremely dry. So if it's a choice between that and drooling, I'll pick drooling.

I have dentures and all ball gags will pop my dentures loose. I was putting on my deoderant one day. I happened to look at the shape of the cap. It was oval. I put it in my mouth and it fit perfectly in my mouth. I bit down on it and it didnt pop my dentures loose. Master got a dog collar with a buckle on it and cut the lid of the deoderant cap and inserted the strap in it. He then cut the strap n affixed it to the cap. Not sure how he did it though. The cap can be made to fit over the tongue or turned around so it can fit on top of the tongue.
