Interesting. And, yet, they won't arrest Muslim clerics that recite sentences from the Qur'an that alienate Muslims and Christians.

Christian preacher arrested for saying homosexuality is a sin

A Christian street preacher was arrested and locked in a cell for telling a passer-by that homosexuality is a sin in the eyes of God.

I didn't read the article yet but damnit, if that were here, we have the freedom of speech and arresting someone for exercising it, no matter how distastefully, is bullshit.

Don't they? I take it Abu Hamza doesn't ring any bells, then.

Ridiculous - although one must always take with a pinch of salt anything reported in the Torygraph.

Why is that the only bloody UK paper any of the Americans in here ever quote from?

LadyEllen -> RE: Christian preacher arrested for saying homosexuality is a sin (5/5/2010 5:32:02 AM)

Thats not true MH! They also quote the Tory Mail quite regularly too

Good point. I was forgetting how much luuurve the Mail gets on here. I suppose the Sun's a bit too parochial for this lot.

LadyEllen -> RE: Christian preacher arrested for saying homosexuality is a sin (5/5/2010 5:39:59 AM)

Indeed, one needs a lifetime of growing up in Britain to even comprehend the convulsion of English used by the Sun to communicate to its readers what they should know and believe, straight from Rupert Murdoch's agenda to that space where their brain should be.

homophobia is in the bible
expressions homophobia are against the law in the UK
the law applies to everyone in the UK, the bible doesn't
he is allowed to think what he likes - but expressing ideas that are against the law isn't wise in public
he is entitled to his beliefs - but the rest of us are entitled to live our lives without his demented ramblings being in earshot
I'd ban (or restrict to one fixed location) all the preaching nutters anyway - I find them offensive
oh and I'd ban the chuggers, too - they are seriously annoying and are beginning to get increasingly pushy round here to boot
in fact kill em all - I like a nice, quiet high street - town centre for shopping, churches for all that religious bollocks

amen

Actually, as far as the muslim thing goes, the Sun tends to be a bit less obnoxious about the dreadful threat posed to the British way of life posed by Islamists than most of digger's red tops as it's the chosen paper of the majority of asian chavs. Presumably they like the tits on page 3...

Brain is from Canada. But the confusion is understandable. All he ever does is post links bitching about the US.

What exactly is going on in Europe that people think it's all right to make all these exceptions to free speech?

Some douche bag claims homosexuality is a sin, or that the holocaust was a tea party, there are a number of reasonable courses of action -- ignore him, laugh at him, heckle him, fart in his general direction -- none of which involves making a mockery of law and order.

(I'm not implying that law and order isn't ordinarily a mockery of itself, but let's focus on one issue at a time.)

Well then maybe you should avoid making statements like 'they won't arrest muslim clerics', huh? He's a pretty major UK religious figure because of his arrest.

A chugger is a charity worker who stands in the street and accosts passers-by in an attempt to get them to sign up to a standing-order donation to the charity. They can be aggressive-so 'chugger' is a contraction of 'charity' and 'mugger'.
