I have an extensive Survival Kit. While I get my list up I want to ask a few questions...

Do you have a Survival Kit?
If you do what does it consist of?
If you do not have a survival kit, why?
What is your favorite/most handy item (besides rope :P)?
Are some of the items pervertables?

Batteries, all sizes, lots of them. Toilet paper. Duck tape/electrical tape. A spool of kite string. Sandwich bags to keep small items like matches dry. Bottled water/a canteen or bota bag/water treatment tablets. Several flashlights. Matches and lighters/a fire kit. A compass/GPS. A small tarp. A good heavy sleeping bag. A radio. Towels. Granola bars/trail mix/canned goods/road food that does not have to be cooked. Socks. Good shoes or boots, the kind you'd go hiking in, that fit well and will not cause foot sores. A coat/some long-sleeved shirts. A good utility knife.
(This list is a work in progress, and includes some of the things My ex-husband included when he was getting us ready for Y2K. Yeah, I know, THAT was a joke. I do not have a current survival kit, as such, but We have plans in place that will suffice..)

No. I do not have a survival kit.

If a dooms day scenario would ever present itself I would rely on my brains, my keen sense of direction, smell and my abilities and the necessary stealth required that would enable me to steal someone else's survival kit.

In a post apocalyptic America the Domidong will be the one icon left that will be able to pull a group of rag tag survivors together to forge ahead in a desert wasteland.

I must survive.

do you actually ensure that your items in your survivel kit stay up to date in regards to shelf live?

Every time I get home I have to declutter my parents medicine cabinet to chuck out the stuff which is out of date as I doubt that they actually look at the date and some parts of those survival kits also have only a shelf life of 5 years

I have only some strategically placed flashlights and candles. This has so far proven to be an adequate survival kit. Beyond that, I suspect it would be impossible to be fully prepared for any and all worst-case-scenario which might come my way. I choose to worry less and live more.

No, no real pile of stuff I would call a survival kit.

I live in a rural area that often has power outages, usually weather related, occasionally for days at a time. We've got a heat source other than a furnace. We've got a generator. Always a pile of candles and matches in the pantry. Always plenty of food in the house. Always multiple flashlights around...they are a part of daily life on the farm. I can easily cook without electricity. It's just not a big deal.

I don't have a favourite handy item. My brain, and the knowledge I have, suffices.

Long term, end of the world as we know it, survival.............not on my list of important things to worry about.

A Good Plan is more important than a kit. On this I concede.

My Survival Kit:
A roll of duct tape (squished), Toilet Paper, Folding Spade/pick with Compass in the handle, Pliers, Sissors, Nail Clippers, Cuticle Cutters, Screw Drivers (2), Bit Sets, Socket Set, Hex Set, Bicycle, Jogging Stroller/Bike Cart, Measuring tape (metric and english), Red LED Light, White LED Light, Lighter, Mirror with a hole in it (comes from a hard drive, very useful for signaling if used correctly), small neodymium magnet, Black Thread, Sewing Needles, Very small pan for boiling water, Large Candle, A Fresnel Lens that is the size of a standard piece of paper, folder with pertinent data, Rope (lots of cordage), Small Gortex Tarp, Net, Super Absorbent Towel, 5 Gallon expandable Water Container, backpack, Hand Sanitizer (really good for starting fires and disinfecting skin).....

I am sure there is more... like food. Pemmican is something I have not prepared yet but that is soon to be completed.

you should have fishing line 8-12 pound test (never out of box, never in sunlight, some 6 or 8 size fishing hooks, I recommend gamakatsu or daiichi (aval at wal-mart even) a small whetstone, can of lard (excellent food value) a couple of those reflective heat sheets (human sized) a knife, plastic (it rains) strike anywhere matches, (or learn flint and striker) couple kotex maxi pads (for staunching bloodflow) hacksaw blades.........you should sharpen the folding spade to axe like sharp...................

Florida with intermittent bouts of homelessness. I forgot to include my Mess blade with a spoon, fork, knife, and a pick. My bike tires have this foam goo too. No flat tires. I am almost tempted to purchase an air duct that I can fit in (bivy tent). I am a Nomad by nature and have not been in one area for more than three years. I never unpack but I pack very well.

Multiuse items. :D Plus the bicycle and cart lightens the 35 pound load.
