There are two different things being discussed here , corset wearing and waist training/tight lacing . To Asylum first It appears that your wanting to go the training tight lacing route , if that is so , set small goals , do not think of huge reduction #s straight away . You will find a real corset , one made for you VS a off the rack will be far better suited for these needs . For that your going to need to visit a quality maker , go in for a measurement and fitting , pick your fabric and style / cut .There are also trainers you can wear close to 24/7 . Kathy Jung for example has been waist training and tight lacing for decades , removing her garments only to bathe . A real corset does not have plastic stays nor boning , can not be wadded up into a ball , nor does it only cost 19.99 .If your going to be waist training your fist goal should be 3-4 " reduction at first . This may sound like a small goal BUT if you do not like it now the garment can just be worn and enjoyed .I Have seen the school of thought of getting one that you can cinch 6-8" and just use longer laces .Yes this can be done , but it puts undo stress on the garment and shortens its life span , besides that it is ill fitting . Research many Corset makers , if they can have you have those multiple measurements over the phone that may be ok for your first garment , Ideally going in for the measuring and the fitting is best . Now if you just wish to wear a corset once every 6 months or once a year , try an off the rack .
