What annoys me most is not a spelling mistake, but people who say "I could care less" when what they really mean is "I couldn't care less". Just me, I guess ...

I can't let this thread pass by without adding My biggest language peeve. Too many people who live among us do not know that TOO is a word! I am certain these people must think I have a sticky O on My keyboard, yet they never question where My "extra" O comes from; they just keep writing "to" where "too" should be applied. I suppose the 'to' people are the same ones who like to 'conversate'... ugh

Hell, it was painful just typing that. Begins ritual of cleaning coffee spew off screen.. which is embarrassing sitting here in a truckstop resturant in Knoxville taking a lunch break from my drive... (love wireless and laptops sometimes.. lol) But now I got all these truckers wondering what was so funny.. [:D]

when folks have nouthing better to do then worey about outher folks spelling thay should find some thing to keep ther mind bussey hell its not bad spelling its code for thous folks to figer out gives thhem some thing to and makes them feel importent so why stop is doing a service so park spell check

I'm not irked by spelling and grammar issues because my brother has cerebral palsy and is nonverbal, so types with a stick on a headband, painstakingly, one letter at a time. He often makes mistakes in spelling and grammar and doesn't bother to correct them. I don't blame him. He's a mean chess player. Not stupid, physically limited, that's all. However, when one comes in superior, proclaiming their many and varied degrees in their mastery of the English language they best be letter perfect with every i dotted and every t crossed because I will call them on it every time. Yes, I'm flawed and I'm deeply ashamed. ::chuckles:: Celeste

Ummmmm Ok, I just realized I'm an offender. This is embarassing. BUT, that won't keep me from pointing out others errors. My ALL time biggest spelling peeve is your for you're. Already mentioned several times. Another is loose for lose. It also bothers me when someone uses a "big word" to impress, but misspells or uses it improperly. (not very impressive) For example twice within a two day period I saw the term unbeknownst spelled unbenounced. And lastly, I cringe when I see extra "ed's" added to the end of words on print or in speech. As in "we conversated all night" or "I reconciliated my check book".

I don't worry about typos when chatting with someone but when I'm reading a profile it's very irksome to see dominate in the place of dominant. ie "I'm looking for a dominate mistress." Now I'm referring mainly to profiles which are like resumes. You only have one chance to make a good first impression. Spelling errors and bad grammer in the profile is not the way to impress people Mr. Pete single and looking submission doesn't mean doormat Domination doesn't mean Tyrant

Color instead of colour probably doesn't count, right? [8D] I don't mind spelling mistakes in general. What I do mind is people not caring about their own posts to the extend (or is it extent - that's my eternal typo) that the meaning becomes obscure. The better the English, the easier it is for foreigners like me to understand the post...

I HATE bad spelling, however since I pay very little attention to what my fingers are actually doing when I am replying, I am subject to more than my fair share of FFs, and generally don't bother complaining. However I agree with Tikiee, netspeak pisses me off and I too want to slap the user perpetrator.

LOL practically everything I write is mispelled or has a typing error. hehehe I just discovered that unlike a lot of other sites this one offers a spell check...will be trying to remember to use it from now on.... but remember hukt on foniks werkt fer me at least till now winks and smiles

Glad you started this thread mate, it's probably a tad overdue....... The one phrase which always gets me irritated is when someone posts "I could care less" I never came across it until I started reading posts from the US, so I’m guessing it is a local thing..... No big deal I usually enjoy the differences of expressions from overseas places.. It may be worth remembering folks that not everyone uses the same version of English.. Example, I spell the woolly things I wear on my tootsies as SOCKS but ion the US it is often spelt SOX. Generally I write in Word and cut/paste into the forums… I have spell check running as well.. However you do need to remember that there is the option of setting spell-check to UK English, NZ English, Australian English and US English. In the past when I have people ripping to me regarding spelling on something I was written in Word and spell checked, I’ve gone back and rechecked and yes they were blasting me for not using US English…. I left one list because they were so anal and demanded I only use US English… Sheeeesh.. The Other thing which is worth remembering is that some with dyslexia simply can not see the errors.. I work in word because firstly I can increase the size of the font I write in for better edition and because it I write directly into the posting box I can not see typos or grammatical errors which is why I often edit. Spell check does not pick up errors if the incorrect word is used and spelt correctly….
