Recently in a thread on good D/s music I made a small remark about not being fond of the music of Nine Inch Nails. I think I called it "that kind of stuff..."

Okay, this morning, in an email exchange with a certian frequent poster (who may chose not to remain anonymous) I promised to actually give Nine Inch Nails a chance.

So, this evening, I downloaded 4 of their songs and gave them a better listen. A closer listen, even. ::hehehe::

So.....Now, I feel I should make amends by admitting publically that Nine Inch Nails don't exactly sound like they are scratching on the chalkboard. I may even have to admit that they might grow on me.

Consider this perhaps an excercise in humilation?

Im not the frequent poster but one of my favorite songs is by that group. Did you get a chance to listen to this one?

My theme song.

Nine Inch Nails Lyrics

Closer (To God) Lyrics

you let me violate you,
you let me desecrate you
you let me penetrate you,
you let me complicate you

help me I broke apart my insides,
help me i've got no soul to sell
help me the only thing that works for me,
help me get away from myself

I want to fuck you like an animal
I want to feel you from the inside
I want to fuck you like an animal

my whole existence is flawed
you get me closer to god

you can have my isolation,
you can have the hate that it brings
you can have my absence of faith,
you can have my everything

help me tear down my reason,
help me its' your sex I can smell
help me you make me perfect,
help me become somebody else

I want to fuck you like an animal
I want to feel you from the inside
I want to fuck you like an animal

my whole existence is flawed
you get me closer to god

through every forest, above the trees
within my stomach, scraped off my knees
I drink the honey inside your hive
you are the reason I stay alive

Yes, that was one I listened to. I've seen the lyrics posted a few times in different BDSM forums so I knew it was a S/m favourite.

I think it'll grow on me.

LOL.  I originally did the same thing with Pearl Jam.  They grew on me.  I've always loved me some NIN, though.

Perhaps you might also enjoy "Tool."  Start with "StinkFist"

Or Korn's "Beat It Up Right"  (a GREAT song for percussion play).

Music will occasionally grow on me, but most of the time, if I'm going to like something, it hits me in the solar plexus the first time I hear it. If I have the urge to crank up the volume, that's a sure sign I've found a new song to love.

Music can be very visceral for me. Probably part of being a guitar-man's daughter. LOL

Well, whoever this "frequent poster" is certainly sounds like an incredible person......astounding musical taste.....might I suggest "Something I Can Never Have" and "Ringfinger" and "Hurt", by Mr Reznor's little band?

Oh yes, he seems to be all those things...and uhmmm, modest, too, huh?

Consider those sounds downloaded by the end of the day. My mp3 player is due for a new load so I may even find myself humming along to them on the way to Seattle, tonight.

Cin <~ thanks the 'mysterious frequent poster' for having the grace not to say "I Told You So!!"

Their song, "Hurt", is also covered very well by Johnny Cash.

I love NIN. I saw them last year and got kicked in the kidneys, Best Concert Ive ever been to. Apart from DCD.
If you can get it listen to the song "And All That Could Have Been".  Its a bit of Rarity, It was released on the Bonus disc of the album of the same name.

It is a rare instance that I will not give music a chance. Although there are some things I will not tolerate such as rap or country I have listened to some of that stuff and I still couldn't hack it. God bless those that like rap and country... someone has to and if those people depended on me for their income they would be poor.

NIN is a pretty good band. I haven't heard much from them except the popular stuff, but what I have heard I have liked. I wouldn't run out and buy all of their albums, but I rarely do for any band.

My oldest listens to death metal, Cannibal Corpse, Mushroom Head, Powerman 5000, Slipknot... he has exposed me to that stuff and I can't say that I could take a steady diet of it, from a purely musicians perspective these guys are fine musicians. It is extremely difficult to keep up the pace they set for themselves. I approach music like I do food, I will try it to see if I like it. If I don't like it, I won't have it again.

I have to admitt that e'en though I'm on record here for my absolute dislike (putting it mildly) of rap and beebop, some times, just sometimes a song come along which really grabs me. I may be an old fart who still prefers the music of an Irish Harp and pipes, the scirl of Scottish bagpipes or my Wagner and Beethoven or Sibelius and Bach, I'm still open to new sounds and forms too....

Nine Inch Nails ..... Okkkk I'll hunt them up for the hell of it  but I still think 9" stainless steel nails are better used for nailing scrotums, tits and ears to walls of disobedient slaves....  and attaching electrodes or other interesting things to them....

Somehow I suspect that the band wouldn't object too strongly to your use of their namesake implements

Hurt is a wonderful song.
The first time I heard that song it was Trent Reznor, unplugged, shortly after Hurricane Katrina.
I also like the Johnny Cash version.

The Cash version is powerful as hell, especially the video. Gave me goosebumps. Here's what Reznor said after the Man in Black's passing:

"To hear that Johnny was interested in doing my song was a defining moment in my life's work," said NIN's Trent Reznor. "To hear the result really reminded me how beautiful, touching and powerful music can be. The world has truly lost one of the greats. My heart goes out to his family and friends."
