Status: offline 		I'm currently redoing my room in an early era(1900-1950) boudoir fashion. What I've learned from boudoir rooms is that furniture is kept to a minimum. I currently have 2 dressers (1 low w/mirror and a 5 drawer chest) that i'm replacing, but i'm only bringing 1 new one(5 drawer chest). I didn't really use the dresser, however- I have a lot of clothes that I keep in my laundry room (shame on me lol) and I'm working on keeping all my clothes in my room if I'm not washing them.

With that said, I'm going to need more storage. I decided to try to use my closet to its full potential, but its extremely small. In addition to being only 7 feet by 3 feet, it only goes about 3 1/2 feet deep. I'm not sure yet, but i'm thinking of getting rid of the actual door and replacing it with curtains so there will be no need to jam the door shut, but i don't want anything protruding if possible.

Can somebody give me some advice? Storage systems I should use, what i might need to get installed, etc.?

but then whole shoe thing comes in. and i'm not a fan of overhead storage- i tend to get things dropped on me lol

Status: offline 		If your laundry room is big enough and has enough ventilation, do in fact utilize that as your closet. There is no rule saying you can't, especially if you live alone. And if you have a door on it, what's the harm in making it into a closet with a washer and dryer biuilt in?? I have a bar going across my laundry room and in fact do hang most of my clothes in there due to convenience after i wash them and hang them in there to dry.

As for the actual closet, depending how tall you are, you can move the bar for the clothes up as high as you can (even higher if you would enjoy a decorative step/seat stool you can leave near there and step on it to get clothes hanger off the bar, then this will leave you room on the bottom wherein you can put shelves that house baskets for other stuff or extra "dresser" type space. If you do decide to leave all of your hanging clothes in your laundry room, you can in fact utilize the whole closet and a shelving unit type concept.

also a neat trick is get lifters for you bed - this is also where the lil step stool comes in where you can walk up to your bed lol if its low and utilize under your bed for storage, put "drawer" type things under there where you can just pull it out for like shoes and stuff. Have a bed skirt and you can get ones that blend so it doesn't appear to be more stuff so to speak and its a perfect storage area, just make sure the drawer type things have covers so dust and stuff don't get in.

Personally, the curtain idea is to me a no go, it will LOOK like you are just trying to cover up what's inside. I've never been a fan of curtains for doors. however, i am not sure how this would look but instead of curtains you could get a decorative screen to go in front of the closet, if its one of those tall ones and goes all the way to the floor, you may be able to set it so that its out some from the actual closet and sort of extend the closet out and put some drawer type things outside the closet but behind the screen, that way, you can just walk around the screen into your closet area without it appearing to be a cover for a closet so to speak. Like i said i am not sure how this would look but it may work with your decor and give you more "closet" space behind the screen.

Status: offline 		How big is the bedroom, slick?  could you extend the depth of the closet (jutting it into the room a little more, as well as getting a closet organizing system in there?  And, you can of course use the vacuum storage bags to reduce the not often wore stuff and rotate your stock ........ 

There are the multi dropdown hangars that hold multiple items, there is the possibility (if you have a rather unused room, to make the entire thing a separate closet dressing area. done in new england all the time.

when i think about it, the curtain thing does say, "don't look at whats behind this curtain."

however, i was thinking of keeping the curtains pinned back so that the fabric is more of a frame around the door way.

and i would and have tried to have my laundry room as my closet- but its in the basement and NOTHING makes it warm. Heaters, insulation, carpets...nothing. so i prefer to get dressed in my room.

but i will be using the bed lift idea. excellent shoe storage.

Status: offline 		its a fairly large room, but why it has such a small closet- i have no freaking idea. and i wish i had another room: i have a 3 bedroom house-my room, my guest bedroom/my mum's room when she decides to pop in unannouced, and my art studio. if i had the choice, i really would use an extra room for just my closet.

and i've been thinking of those bags, but i wanted to have some kind of system in place before i started packing everything

and is there a closet in the art studio where you can rotate stock from?

Status: offline 		Remove the door and build shelving in there about two thirds of the way up from the floor, then put in a pair of overhead cabinets (to avoid the falling-on-head issue; ouch).  You can use the shelves to store clothes, shoes, or whatever, and fill the cabinets with 'naughty' stuff like toys and fetish shoes.  :D 

Or, if you wanna go the cheaper way, buy a tall bookshelf and slide that in there instead of custom-installing shelving and cabinets, and hang a pair of curtains from the top so that A) it's not just a hole in the wall and B) you can round off the room and make it look neater even if the bookshelf is overflowing with clutter.

Myself, I had a double closet and when I removed both doors, I measured how much room I had inside and went out to buy a new desk.  When I found one that fit, I just slid that in there and put a few cabinets over head.  It makes for a nice little nook and gives you storage space without stealing floor room or cluttering up the rest of your bedroom.

Is there anything online where you can put the dimensions in and figure out what you want?
