I don't understand what good or bad have to do with it?  You are either a developed country or you are developing or you are a shithole.

So you do not feel that calling a country a shithole relates your feeling that that is a bad thing??????

Nothing to do with good or bad.  I am pretty sure Uganda is one of the good guys, it hasn't done too much to me, but it is still a backwater.  I am using first world and third world as a way to scale the progress of development for a country.

So who is in the second world?

By the way, depending on what Greece does it could drop off the list of first world countries as quickly as it came on.  It has always been one of the countries that straddle the line.

Been straddling that line for the past fifty years.
The list above shows Greece joined in 1961

When it comes to natural monopolies the costs of establishing a means to produce certain goods and services to each household can be very large and requires large capital costs. This capital cost is a strong deterrent for possible competitors. Society benefits from having natural monopolies because having multiple firms operating in such an industry is economically inefficient.  Where there are no such inefficiencies the private will always beat the national.

So you are not in favor of competition and the free market and would instead prefer a "managed economy" free from the interference of competition that would elide to a monopoly?

The names of cities combining services can be written on the back of the napkin just for the county I live in.

The point is that there is still only one police and they are a function of the state. There are no compeating police departments.

As for people moving out, that option is only available to the ones with enough means, and then they move to the suburb with the best services.

Before it was your position that anyone could move when they were unhappy with the cops in their town. Now you seem to agree that if you have a visa with benny's pic on it you can leave town....is that really any different in the communist countries you have visted?
Are commies just as "bribable" as capitalist?

You are right about the need for that pic of Benny (but the great thing about the US is that the picture is easy to get if you are willing to work for it, unlike many other places).

So anyone who is not a lazy phoque can earn all the bennies they might ever need.
Somehow it does not apply to you though does it? Since all one needs to succeed is hard work why are you not more successful.
If all someone in watts needs to do to be wealthy is work hard then all of those poor people are by your definition a bunch of lazy phoques.
From the position of ted turner or adnan khashoggi you are a pauper and you,by your own definition, are such because you are too lazy to work hard enough to have what they have.
It seems so easy to see the argument when you point to someone poorer than you but a little more difficult to see yourself as the lazy phoque when compared to really "successful" people.

This argument is going nowhere, but I will say that I could like that country or hate it and it would still be a shithole.  It's nothing personal, it just is.

You did diagnose me right, I am lazy.  I mean I am in a good position make more money than the average American, let alone people my own age, and did it all from zero as a non-native born American, but I am very lazy by my own standard, if not by American.  I could have been a practicing doctor already, two years ahead of my peers, if I had only done a 6 year med program I had gotten accepted to out of high school, but I thought it would be too much of a hassle and just wanted to do the bare minimum to make good money and get out in four years (it sounds stupid when I say that now, only a few years later but that is life).  Didn't even tell my family I got into an accelerated med program cause I knew I would be kicked out if they found out I chose business over a guaranteed MD degree.  So your assessment is dead on, with the small caveat that innate ability has a lot to do with it, but for the average person success (at least what I consider success) is all about hard work.

What do you think the "average" person could make annually with all of this hard work?

The CIA should take out Chaves. This time do it right and don't screw it up like 50 years ago in Cuba. Problem solved.

It's not about how much the average person can make annually.  Why does everything have to be about money?  Some people are just so materialistic.  It is all about how much cool stuff a person can buy annually to make them temporarily happy and forget all his/her troubles

My, my,...............aren't you impressive?

Reminds me of another arrogant little poser that used to post on here.

He was really fond of of the Austrian school of economics.

You wouldn't have any idea who I'm talking about would you?

So your point is that you are lazy and have managed to make a little money... so that empowers you to tell others if they want to succeed like you not to be lazy like you but to work which will only make them tired and not make them wealthy but you will be able to laugh at their failed efforts while watching them being evicted on your 90" plasma screen.
I see you are interested only in humor and not in a discussion...
thanx for the heads up.

It is CM, I try to intersperse discussion with humor (you should do the same; it’ll help you live longer).  As the Joker likes to say, “Why so serious?”

When it comes to laziness, I might have exaggerated a little, I am better than most, but not as committed to work as some in my field.  In the end it is all about priorities.  If it is more important for you to go out to happy hour at 7 instead of staying at work till midnight, then you will not rise up the letter as quickly and get as large a bonus as those that work six days a week 16 hours a day, but you will enjoy the money you earn in the ten hours a day you have worked that week.

Also if it is 90 inches it isn’t going to be plasma, it's going to be a projector.

You don't get the feeling that certain people need a refresher course for "Communism 101"?

I was at the consumer electronics show in las vegas in january.
Panasonic was there with the world's largest plasma tv 152" Hi-def and 3D?...but of course.
If you want a big one you will need to act fast because of he high power consumption of plasma tvs they will be discontinued in the very near future so this may be your last chance to own one.

I do not think he is a saint. He will be termed out at the end of his current term. Do you think it is appropriate to murder someone because they have a different political philosophy than you?

This argument is going nowhere

Sure it is...you say something stupid and I point it out.
Your definition of "third world"; is that something you made up to go along with your "austrian economic theory" or is there some bassis in fact for your assertion?

I'm sorry, that was uncalled for.  I get a little quick to type before I think and end up coming off as a wise ass.  My arguments are strong enough to win without resorting to name calling and I need to stop resorting to personal attacks.

You're welcome, Rich.  I'm surprised that you hadn't happened upon that article yourself.

You know, it's a shame.  I'm truly in agreement with the goals of communism in some ways.  Somehow, bloodshed has always reared its ugly head under it, though.  It's odd, like seeing a bunch of flower-strewing hippies turn into the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

The article say just the opposite of what you say it says.
Chavez specifically says that fucking with the butcher is bullshit and that the wholesalers are the culprets.

Yep, that's exactly what he said.  On the other hand, he rules his country, and I have no doubt that the government's actions speak to his sentiments more than his words.  If he wanted to change what is happening, he could.
