I don't think people are drifting toward democrats, they're just drifting away from republicans. The democrats just happen to be in that general direction, so it looks as though they're drifting toward them.

I would agree.   But are young white men really leaving the suburbs?

many suburbs pretty much want to forget there is ever a city.

It's definitely true. I can see the evidence all around me. Chicago has built a huge number of new dwellings and most have been priced for the yuppie market.

This is very true for Manhattan and the surrounding boroughs, although many move out as soon as they have kids.  I think this trend will reverse when the family aged population once again becomes the majority.

I agree with the article. The younger demographics along with college graduates are moving to the cities because that is generally where the jobs, nightlife, restaurants and other cultural activities are. Rather than living in the suburbs and commuting into the city, for many singles and couples without children, it makes more sense to live where everything is.
