Personally I think what defines a "Dom", like many other things in life, is relative on a wide range. Someone can be sadistic...but how sadistic? What does that even mean to them? And how do they carry it out? That's just my view on it. My perspective on "good discipline" would vary from many other Doms in the scene.

First and foremost..and I KNOW you heard this beore...submission is not about sex...submission is a "gift"..given to his/her Master willingly and openly. A true Master/Dom is always respectful and protective. most of the subs I have know...have those dark secret places in their minds were they have always wanted to go and were affraid to. A Master wll allow encourge you to explore that side of you..while respecting and protecting at the same time. Of course there are game players..there always have been and always will be...always remember "Caution is a virtue". Seek out other subs and the ones they serve and ask and listen..don't jump..judge ask you have that right. Your willingness to submit is a priceless give..choose who you give it to carefully...a True Master will earn your "gift". You will come to want to serve Him..accept nothing less.

Submission is no more a gift than my dominance is a gift. It is who we are. We get to choose who we share these traits with, but that's all. It may not be about sex for you, but to make a statement like that is rather silly.

A toaster is a gift...a bad one too.... Submission is who I am and he doesn't have to "earn it". My respect and trust, yes. But the problem with that cliche is it implies that there is something mystical about d/s that isn't true about other relationships. There isn't. D/s is not disneyland. As in any relationship, of course you have to be careful of whom you give your trust, respect and love to. The other thing you have to be very careful about is generalizations. Among other things, submission is VERY sexual to me and it may be ONLY sexual to many and there's nothing wrong with them being who they are and being able to be open and honest about it. There is also no "true Master". There are people that are good for us and compatible and people that are not. It doesn't make them "fake or untrue."
