Oh to sleep to rest my head upon this stony pillow of sand These grains do scratch and scrap my hands as i crawl in darkness it expands To see the sack and hear him mutter the little imp the sack he fills To mix the stardust twinkles bright here in the dead of night The lights are gone his work undone, to lay to rest this weary one To toss and turn and worry more to think of things and to scatter scorn There the trail of sand is gone the moon shines bright as if its morn Moaning groaning crying still, i wish the sandman at this moment was coming The day dragged on the night is cold the wind of worries grows ever bold To curl up tight and close my eyes and beg him come and bloke out the world of lies The sound of steps within the shadows a gentle laugh and caressing fingers This friend and companion to my side does creep, and i bid him please give me sleep To lie in this nest to try to rest to count the sheep who over my pillows leapt Within the glow and soft loving feelings grow the sparkling sand begins to land With a smile upon my upturned lips, i once more beg you just one kiss
