From NBC's Jim Miklaszewski and Mark Murray
U.S. military officials tell NBC News that the U.S. Army will court martial a lieutenant colonel who refuses to deploy to Afghanistan because he considers orders from President Obama to be "illegal." Army doctor Lt. Col. Terry Lakin believes Obama does not meet the constitutional requirements to be president and commander-in-chief, because he believes (incorrectly) that Obama wasn't born in the United States. Lakin refused this week to report to Fort Campbell, KY for deployment to Afghanistan, but instead showed up at the Pentagon, where he was confronted by his brigade Commander Col. Gordon Roberts, a Vietnam Medal of Honor recipient. Lakin was informed by Roberts that he would face court martial, and his Pentagon building pass and government laptop computer were seized.

Okay, this is going to be interesting.  Considering that he and his attorney appeared on AC360, and the defense attorney claimed that the certificate of live birth as issued by the state of Hawaii is not proof of birth in the state.

Nor did it seem to matter that the REPUBLICAN governor of Hawaii had the state's attorney general examine the original, verify its authenticity AND agreed that President Obama had indeed been born in the state of Hawaii.

Oh, and the birth announcement published in the local newspaper means nothing as well.

Lt. Col. Terry Lakin, an Army physician, has refused to obey any orders from his commanding officers -- including President Obama -- until Obama produces his birth certificate.

"Any reasonable person looking critically at the evidence currently in the public domain would have questions about President Obama's claim to be a natural born citizen," Lakin says in the below video released the right-wing American Patriot Foundation. "I will disobey my orders to deploy [to Afghanistan] because I, and I believe all servicemen and women and the American people, deserve the truth about President Obama's constitutional eligibility to the office of the presidency and the commander in chief."

Lakin says this marks the first time during his 18 years in the Army that he has chosen to disobey "what I believe are illegal orders." Evidently he didn't feel the need to personally verify the citizenship of his three previous commanders-in-chief.

Why does it not surprise me to discover this man is white?

I watched the show and I've never seen Cooper hold someone's feet to the fire that way.

But it was justified.

For the majority of the interview he refused to speak and his attorney answered the questions.

Considering that President Obama evidently met all the requirements to run for president when he announced his bid to run, I have the feeling that this guy is looking at a dishonorable discharge at the very least.

I've got two words for that stupid bastard - Leavenworth.

Oh. Wait. That's one word.

Ah, well. The point stands.

I bet he is a teabagger.

TPE....is going to be angry to read this.

I agree, Jeff. When I enlisted over 20 years ago, I served with the guidance of NCOs who were black, Hispaniac and female (the female was the toughest drill instructor.). I did not judge them by their color of skin, but by the ability to condition us into how to be soldiers. I do admit that I did get out early for mental and physical reasons, nothing would be more interesting how I got through it all.

My 2 brothers and I served to the best of our abilities, with one just retiring after 20 years. He is now a contractor with Lockheed and to this day, I refuse to know what he does.

The birther is going to face dishonorable discharge and probably time in Leavenworth.

Of course this lawyer is speaking for him...betcha he is trying to invoke Fifth admendment privileges, but once you are enlisted or commissoned, you and your soul belongs to the military.

I find it difficult to understand this mans actions. He is a commissioned officer that means he was commissioned by the president and serves at the presidents pleasure. He has been in the military for 18 years so he would have been comissioned by bush senior and he does not question his commission.
Give this punk 6+6 and a kick and lets move on.

Might be an interesting trial.

MC4Misfit -> RE: Army to court martial 'birther' officer (5/10/2010 6:42:21 PM)

One more thought...if the thought Obama wasn't legally his commander-in-chief and that all of his orders were illegal, shouldn't this guy have resigned as soon as Obama took office?  By his logic hasn't he been following an illegal chain of command...until he got an order he didn't like?

servantforuse -> RE: Army to court martial 'birther' officer (5/10/2010 6:46:46 PM)

I'm not positive, but pretty sure that even an officer can't just resign at a moments notice, or after an election..

ShaharThorne -> RE: Army to court martial 'birther' officer (5/10/2010 7:20:31 PM)

Its called red tape. I got out because of medical and emotional stress and I requested it when I chatted with my local re-enlistment person (losing a grandfather, miscarriage of twins and father having a heart attack in a 2-month period). Unless he had mental illness or any medical problems, he could of tried to get out when Obama was elected but he did not do so. He is merely trying to make a name for himself.

Congrats!!!! Here is your cell and here are your clothes...miss all the privileges of being an officer.
