Status: offline 		I would like to try a safe self ball gag. The one I tried was as big as a tennis ball. Well it seemed that way. lol. Is there a safer smaller ballgag. One that does not taste like plastic?

This one has been the most comfortable for us. You can see that the ball piece is actually molded to about 1 inch of rubber strap on each side before it reaches the connection to the leather...makes it more comfortable when pulling against the corner of the mouth. They're also not that large...small to medium in size (I'd say 1.5""). They used to be really common a couple years back, but you can still find them at some sites and on Ebay.

Status: offline 		They come in different sizes, so I'm sure you can find one that isn't too big for you. Also the taste you're describing is probably from phalates. You want a phalate free gag, not just because the taste (which doesn't go away) is unpleasant but because it probably isn't good for you.

pwnerandpwned  also mentioned finding a gag that isn't hard on the corners of your mouth because that's a common issue. The other option is to get a gag that avoids the corners of your mouth entirely such as this one: http://www.stockroom.com/Locking-Ball-Gag-P1299.aspx

I have the same type of gag in my eBay store - red, white & black.
Adult only section, so you need an eBay account, but might be cheaper once you factor in shipping costs.

Status: offline 		Hi Slavelynn, If you can't find one with small balls, you can do what I've done. I had a Trainer and regular Ball Gag with 2" balls (I am so jelious), but my mouth wasn't big enough (Yeah, right!). I took the Balls off (Removed the rivets), and used smaller, softer balls, and they are just right now. Now all I need is a Female to tell me when to wear them.  LMCLAO

Status: offline 		Thanks, slavelynn95008, for bringing this up.  I've been wondering about this recently, about easing stress on the corners of the mouth and ball size (many I've seen are much too large).

It's been fun using fishnet as a gag, but this other would be...nice. 

I wonder if they make one like head gear, more straps around the head instead of just one that might slide down or put more stress on the ears.  It's been a long time since I've shopped at eBay, seems I've been missing out.

I love that black ball gag...  <sighs>

It's probably not something that would have come up if the ball was too big to completely fit into your mouth. But a gag (regardless of whether it's ball, ring or bit) that sits behind your front teeth with straps on it's sides will have to pull back the corners of your mouth in order to be seated firmly. This leads to chaffing and the possibility of getting your lip caught between the strap and your teeth. Here's a couple of threads about people dealing with this, one solutions which I couldn't get the search to turn up was to use vaseline on the corners of your mouth.

Status: offline 		I've found that rinsing the ballgag ahead of time with something like Listerine staves off the plastic taste. I got one with holes in it from AdultMart (you might find it on the website) that doesn't have a bad taste and fits into a smaller mouth.

Status: offline 		You may be able to cover up the taste with a stronger taste but I would advise against doing so because that chemical flavor is probably coming from phthalates. You're basically sucking on a poison lollipop, just throw it away and get a ball gag that isn't toxic.

Status: offline 		I have several of that gag and the trainer version http://www.stockroom.com/Locking-Trainer-Ball-Gag-P1306.aspx and have used them for several years.  They are comfortable even when worn for hours at a time, and the quality is consistently high.

I've gotten to look through the stockroom product line when I visited Stormy Leather and as far as bdsm gear goes I'm generally impressed with the quality or their gear.  I certainly recommend them, have fun shopping.

Status: offline 		I found that tying a monkey's fist knot in 1/4" nylon or poly rope makes a reasonable soft ball gage thats disposable.  You can vary the number of turns (3 vs 4) or the rope diameter to get different sizes.   Its fairly simple to loop the rope through so you have two strings coming out instead of one, offset from the center so that it puts a little less pressure on the sides of the mouth.  I wouldn't use this to really stuff someones mouth but its a starter gage that seems to go over well.

For cleanliness I usually start with new rope off the spool, wash it and make up a gag to keep in my bag, throw it out after its used.
