Yesterday my sister calls (amazingly enough just to chat and not to ask for babysitting) but I quickly realize why- she's very proud of something she did.

Her: I got the Calvin Klein store to take down their window display

Me: Really? Why?

Her: Well, you know the Calvin Klein store in Arundel Mills, across from the kid rides?

Me: Yeah.

Her: Well they had their display up and obviously they were wearing underwear which wasn't a big deal. But the male mannequins had erections.

Me: I don't see a problem with that.

Her: Ugh are you kidding? I don't want my kids seeing that. I called their store, the mall manager, the local county office and they said they're taking it down.

Me: Well I'm glad you got your voice heard and I support you having your ideas, but I think it's making a big deal out of something that isn't. Your boys know what their penis is, they know it gets hard, they've been masturbating since they were born.

Her: They aren't masturbating! They're just curious and exploring.

Me: They masturbate, it feels good to them.

Her: I don't want my kids seeing that kind of stuff.

Me: I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Her: And that's why you shouldn't have kids. You'd let your kids watch porn?

Me: I wouldn't put it on and sit them down in front of me, how would I enjoy it? But if something was on and they happened to walk in, I wouldn't freak out about it. You let your boys watch PG-13 movies with violence and drugs and such in them, but you aren't ok with a PG-13 store window?

Her: Well, I didn't watch the movie and he ordered it on his own without asking first. Anyway, I gotta go.

Me: OK, bye.

She also votes Republican and supported random bag searches in NYC.

GAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This reminds me of when one of my sons was 6 and he just loved his little toy.  I, trying to be the "enlightened mom" had a little talk with him that it was okay to do that, it was his own body and I knew it felt good, but he should only do it up in his bedroom.  Well, one day, he came up missing, and I found him up in his bedroom.....I was a bit startled and reacted with "What are you doing?"

Without missing a beat, and with the most innocent eyes you've ever seen, he said, "Playing with myself!"

As I opened my mouth to respond, he continued, "You told me if I wanted to play with myself I should go to my bedroom!" 

He was right.  What could I say???  I just told him that he should close his door, too, and went back downstairs!

LOL exactly.  My sister knows they play with themselves, and she's taught them very well that it's fine to touch yourself as long as it's in private...she just doesn't want to face the fact that it's "masturbating" and is dealing with sexuality the same way that most parents do- consider it an evil that will slowly erode their children's innocence.

Status: offline 		My sister became a Jehovah's Witness when she got married. We were raised by very liberal parents and it's amazing to me that someone's mind can actually go so far from open to closed. She just about disowned my nephew (her son) when he grew his hair long at 20 yrs.old. (She herself, was a teen in the 60's!!)

She has her hands full trying to understand how I can hang out with gay friends, get a tat, and not think it's insane when I see someone with facial piercings.

Funny thing is...her religion tells her that her husband is her Master...so we're more alike than she realizes. ::grin::

Great post, LA, we don't talk much about our families on here, it seems.

Status: offline 		I bought this beautiful 5 foot fountain of a naked lady on her tip-toes, hands raised above her head holding a lotus flower, the flower is where the water came out. Master painted her pearl white with golden hair. Absolutely amazing looking fountian. I had it installed out the front of the clinic on the main street. It was amazing the comments it received, people so confronted by by the beauty of the feminine body being naked. At one point I was waiting for something to appear in the newspaper about how atrocious this awesome piece of art was. Most of our clients loved her.

Anyways, one day we get into the clinic and she is in pieces, like 12 pieces, her arms ripped off, her head decapitated etc. Someone had made a stand for morality apparently lol. To their dismay most likely, Master can fibreglass and fixed her, she is now behind the front window, have been waiting for the window to be smashed next (crossing fingers that never happens).

This world is nuts.

Status: offline 		My entire life has been the topic of  many conversations in my family over the years (all outside my presence, of course).
I love my sister dearly; but it is funny how after all those years of telling me I was too conventional and needed to loosen up that she now finds me to be someone to whom she is embarrassed to have people know she is related.
Just goes to show, your siblings will never find you 100% acceptable because you will never be 100% what they want you to be.
What is the addage? You can choose your associates but you can't choose your family...or something along those lines...In the end, they are our siblings and we tell them we support their right to disagree.
Wouldn't it be loverly if they could let it go at that point? LOL

Some people will never understand that the human body is not obscene. Sometimes the acts we commit, based on our drives and insecurities are...But the nude human body is simply no more obscene than the unclothed bodies of dogs, rabbits, cats, etc...

When you consider that it's only once the human body develops mature sexual characteristics it gets labelled obscene then you see where people's psyche are truly at.

W/we, the F/family, dont understand Her reluctance to admit who and what She is. W/we are all in the lifestyle, from grandma, to this one's 16 y.o. neice. in Her soccer mom mode, She would have done the same thing your sister did. She too, is a republican. When I freelanced briefly with ATC I did a piece on my masturbating son.  It was not aired.  The producer told me, "Yeah, I know we said edgy and controversial...apparently that was too controversial."  He said that to me a lot actually.
