ORIGINAL: bondmaid123 I am not opposed to corporal punishment in theory. Is it effective for every child, no. However, the current environment of "The Blessed Sacred Child Around Whom The Universe Revolves" has helped create a society that is in chaos, and no, I'm not saying "BEAT THE BRATS!" but there is a *huge* difference between reasoning with an adult who is capable of abstract and analytical thought and dealing with a pre-verbal child. I wholeheartedly disagree with you and refer you to the fact that the teacher who behaved in this scandalous way probably thinks along the same lines as you. Children shouldn't be taught the universe revolves around them, but they shouldn't be hit just because some adults are too stupid to deal with their youth either. I also refer you to Scandinavian societies where children are respected as human beings (and therefore, not beaten on the principle that they are young) - most people would agree these societies are pretty successful. I've had this conversation before with other people who think like you do, and it never got anywhere, so it's likely we'll never see each others' point of view, by the way [8D] .
