Bill aimed to stem global warming, create jobs
WASHINGTON – Sens. John Kerry and Joe Lieberman unveiled a long-awaited bill Wednesday that aims to curtail pollution blamed for global warming, reduce oil imports and create millions of energy-related jobs. The 987-page bill, the product of more than seven months of negotiations and tweaked recently in response to the Gulf oil spill, also includes new protections for offshore drilling and for the first time would set a price on carbon dioxide emissions produced by coal-fired power plants and other large polluters. The legislation aims to cut emissions of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping greenhouse gases by 17 percent by 2020 and by more than 80 percent by 2050. Both targets are measured against 2005 levels and are the same as those set by a House bill approved last year.

A bipartisan energy bill?  How far will this get?

Global warming, really ? Al Gore, who has been preaching for years that ice caps are melting and our coast lines will be flooded just bought an 8.75 million dollar villa. Where is this villa you might ask ? It's on a beach in Montecello, CA. Now who but an idiot would spend nearly 9 million on an ocean front home if will be flooded out ? I guess we'll have to ask Al but I'm sure he won't be talking much.

PPL electric went up 42% 1-1-10.  They now put in for another increase- this for the monthly connect fee- which for me amounts to 30%!

UGI gas has seem sim increases.

Food and energy are not part of core inflation.   The PPL increase will be hard on food processors.  Some food items will go up 20% on just this increase alone.

I like the prediction of what the bill does.  I doubt that that's attainable.  Give me the good old days when journalism meant more than transcribing press releases.

thornhappy -> RE: Bill aimed to stem global warming, create jobs (5/12/2010 6:57:51 PM)

There's no Montecello, CA.  They bought an ocean-VIEW house in Montecito, CA (just south of Santa Barbara).

I know Montecito, and it ain't oceanfront.  Much of it's inland with a lot of canyons, but there're properties on higher ground that have ocean views.

My mistake, Montecito, CA...

Thank you Thorny, you saved my fingers but not my tears of laughter

You both can have a good laugh at Al answering why .?

The discussion is about an energy bill in Congress, not Al Gore. You really suck at hijacking threads, you know that?

I am absolutely in favor of restricting coal plant pollution. I'm absolutely in favor of job creation and developing clean energy souces.

And I think those stupid cocksuckers Graham and McConnell should do something constructive, rather than continuously saying no to everything that doesn't come from a Refucklican.

servantforuse -> RE: Bill aimed to stem global warming, create jobs (5/12/2010 7:46:54 PM)

Congress will be debating an energy bill to stem global warming which is a hoax. Con artist Al Gore is proving it by buying ocean front property.

Prove Global Warming is a hoax. Even your rimming partner GWB admitted it's real.

Prove it.

servantforuse -> RE: Bill aimed to stem global warming, create jobs (5/12/2010 7:57:41 PM)

A whole lot of altered and hidden e-mails proved it is a hoax. Uncle Al won't talk about those either.

So you can't prove GW is a hoax, and you're just speaking extemporaneously from your anus. Got it.

Gore's property is not ocean front. It is well inlan and several hundred feet above sea level.

Not sure, who has the majority in the house?

But I agree creating new jobs would be awesome. I will believe it when I start seeing the jobs in this area.

The promise that the bill will create jobs is partially a lie.  It will create jobs, but in China. This is where the solar panels and turbines will be manufactured by thousands of workers vs. 10 USA engineers who design the technology. The last can be avoided with subsidies and tariffs but I do not see it happening.

Global change has been pretty much proven and all you have to do is look at the changes our planet has gone through in the past to see that. Now how much of the current change is due to man is another question. Personally I like things a lot better when we took care of the planet because we knew it was the right thing to do and not to help Al buy a new home.[8|]
